English Language Development (ELD) and Spanish I

What is ELD?

ELD (English Language Development) is a newer name for ESL (English as a Second Language). In other words, ELD is ESL.

The ELD program helps English learners develop proficiency in social and academic English. Students who speak and understand a language other than English are eligible for ELD services. To determine students' level of ELD support, students take a short English exam to measure their language abilities. Depending on their scores, students may not need ELD services, or they may be placed in an ELD class that meets their needs.

For more information about your student's ELD class(es), please find their ELD class on their schedule (viewable in SISK12) and click on the appropriate link under the "Classes" tab.
