In alignment with Randolph’s first theme of the year, our first inquiry question is “What makes us, us?” There is much to explore and so far we’ve looked into names, gender identity, traditions, and how we express ourselves. We’ve read books together, done art projects, and had class discussions. Your kids have shared parts of themselves with their classmates and come up with more questions to explore throughout the inquiry.
In the next few weeks, we’ll arrive at a point in the curriculum where I would like to invite students to bring in an artifact from home. This could be a photograph of an important person (or people), something that has been passed down, a cherished stuffed animal, a favorite family recipe, an instrument…anything that will allow your child to share more about their family (in its many and expansive interpretations!) with the class
The Elder Guardians have moved into the lean-to behind the amphitheater. They worked cooperatively to design a functional space that would allow them to have a place to meet as a group as well as work on a variety of projects. Over the past two years Randolph teaches and students have discovered the beauty of working and learning outdoors. They all pitched in to move wood chips , clear out debris and secure their stumps to make nature stools!
