The Hughsonville Fire Department visited the Upstairs Neighborhood and Downstairs. We learned about fire safety and had a chance to use the fire hose!
Many thanks to Abdiel, dad to Rio in the USN, for sharing some Latin rhythms to help us celebrate Hispanic Heritage month. Abdiel taught us about different drum beats that he remembers from his childhood in Puerto Rico; the plena, bomba, and música jíbara. We all enjoyed learning and dancing together!
We were incredibly fortunate to have Erik Fyfe, dad to Annie in the DS and Frances in USN, bring in his one-of-a-kind cider press to share with us! Erik has built an apple masher and cider press that is bicycle powered! The children were amazed by the physics of gears and inclined planes that worked together so beautifully to create a sweet treat.
Special thanks to Jen, mom to Pippa in the USN, and Amakoe, dad to Kekeli in the DS, for volunteering to support our cider-making efforts!
Whether curling up in a quiet spot or gathering around to share a story with friends, Randolph kids of every age have multiple times per day to get lost in a book. It is one of the key ways that we foster a love of reading.
