Smith Guidance Department

Mission Statement:

The Guidance Department provides comprehensive services for all students, including orientation, counseling, consulting and information management.

Orientation:

Counselors provide students and their parents with an orientation to the Smith Middle School in May of the fifth grade year. They meet with elementary teachers and administrators to prepare for the incoming students. Throughout the year, new students are also provided the same orientation opportunities. Counselors monitor student adjustment as they make the transition to the middle school, helping them and their parents adapt to challenges and grow with newfound competencies. Counselors observe students in classes, lunch and recess and they assist students in small groups and individually as questions and concerns arise.

We look forward to working with students and their families. Parents are encouraged to contact their child's guidance counselor with any questions or concerns.
