Writing

Writing at Raglan

At Raglan we believe immersing children in high quality writing is the key to helping them become successful writers. Therefore all children study a range of different genres, engaging them with rich language models and discussions about what makes effective writing.

Creative Writing

At Raglan children are provided with lots of structured writing opportunities, which allow children to understand how the writing process works, but it is equally important to allow children to use and apply their learning by giving them time and space to write freely for their own purpose and pleasure.

Sometimes film clips and pictures can be a great way stimulus for writing and Pobble 365 has some great images to use.

Writing for different purposes

At Raglan we try to create lots of opportunities for children to develop their writing skills across a range of genres. Each unit of work follows a teaching sequence.

Overview of different genres

At Raglan we continue to ensure children have a full coverage of a range of genres. Texts are chosen because they are high quality and we know children will love them as much as the staff!

Text Maps

At Raglan we have a text map for each unit of work, this outlines what the children will need to know for each unit of work. Using these at home when you are writing will help to ensure children are applying all of the skills they need for each unit of work.

Editing at Raglan

Editing

At Raglan all children are encouraged to edit and improve their work. This is an incredibly difficult process for many children but is a fundamental skill that helps children to improve their writing.
