"What day is it?" asked Pooh.

It's today," squeaked Piglet.

"My favorite day!" said Pooh.

Meet my rat Lemmiwinks. She loves to read!

Lemmiwinks says, "A person who won't read has no advantage over one who can't read."

Wait a minute...Mark Twain said that!

BTW...What do you call a person who keeps on talking when nobody is listening? A TEACHER!!!

BUILD YOUR LITERACY!

ESTABLISH YOUR OWN CREDIBILITY!

Establish your own credibility by demonstrating your own proficient literacy! Write in complete sentences and observe ALL standard language conventions. Standard language conventions refer to the basic elements of writing: sentence structure, grammar, usage, capitalization, punctuation, and spelling. If you have errors in basic language conventions, then you are NOT establishing your literacy; in fact, you are instead establishing that you are semi-literate. As a semi-literate, you have no credibility. If you have errors in basic language conventions, you cannot be taken seriously.

literate - fluent in reading and writing

semi-literate - unable to read or write with ease and fluency; unable to observe standard language conventions when writing

illiterate - cannot read or write

THE RULES OF CIVIL CONVERSATION

We don’t always have to agree, but it’s important that we treat each other with respect and act in good faith. We agree to abide by The Rules of Civil Conversation.

  1. We try to reach a shared understanding rather than “win the argument”.

  2. We clarify with others to make sure we genuinely understand their perspective.

  3. We endeavor to avoid committing logical fallacies in support of our claims.

  4. We attempt to account for our own biases and try to be intellectually humble.

  5. We try to be reasonable and rational, and we try to create coherent arguments.

  6. We refrain from personal attacks, sarcasm, and mean-spiritedness.

  7. We use 'The Principle of Charity’ to see the merits of others’ points of view in the best light.

  8. We remain genuinely receptive to changing our mind if presented with compelling arguments or evidence.
