A black hole is a dark patch in space with an orbiting accretion disk. It is not a hole at all, instead it is a small physical object in space that has much more mass than you might expect. It has an infinite amount of gravity, so much gravity that even light can’t escape it. That is why a black hole is black, because light can’t get out.
If you go near a black hole, you will get spaghettified. That means, if you get too close to it’s event horizon, you will get stretched into one long string of atoms being pulled inside.
It's called a tidal disruption event when a star gets sucked into one. If a star gets too close to the Black Hole, the gravity of the black hole will rip the star apart and suck it in like sucking in a spaghetti noodle. You can watch this video of a star getting destroyed by a black hole.
Did you know we have a super massive black hole in the center of our galaxy? It is called Sagittarius A and last year it got brighter than it has been in 20 years. It means that the black hole probably ate somethings faster than usual. They think that might have happened because a star got close, but not close enough to get sucked in, just close enough to make other stuff get sucked in faster.

Scientists also think that when 2 neutron stars collide, they create a black hole and a gamma-ray burst.
Here are some videos about black holes that are cool and kind of fun to watch.
Here are some other funny videos about black holes that NASA made. These videos can be found here.
