A bequest is an allocation of funds from your estate given posthumously, as outlined in your will. A gift to the school like this can be invested and used to build capital while spending the interest on annual essential needs such as bursaries, new programmes or projects to improve our physical facilities.
In South Africa, estates are free of estate duty up to R3.5 million. Thereafter, estate duty is charged at 20% or at 25% on the estates in excess of R30 million. Thus, any amount left to a recognised charity such as the Queen's College Trust is free of estate duty and deducted from the net estate value.
Please speak to your financial advisor and family members if you are interested. Please speak to the QCOBA Office to discuss the options and details. Here is a sample of a codicil, a supplement that can be added to your existing will, specifying a donation of your wishes to the Queen's College Trust.
