Summer 2018 Camps

  • Summer Registration will open February 19
  • Camps run Monday through Friday, 9 am to 4 pm, from June 18 to August 3.
  • Boats are provided for all introductory level classes. Boat ownership needed for Race Teams.
  • Professional coaching
  • All sailors must wear a US Coast Guard approved life-jacket
  • Safety boat is present for all sessions
  • Cancellation Policy: $100 service charge for cancellation 2 weeks prior to first date of class. No refunds within 2 weeks of class start date.
  • Waitlist: If you sign up for a Waitlist class, we will contact you if you clear the waitlist. Those not removed from the waitlist will be refunded in full.
  • PYSF Scholarships are available to help PYSF achieve its mission to be a community sailing group that teaches sailing regardless of ability to pay. To apply for a scholarship, complete the PYSF Request for Scholarship. Contact treasurer@pysf.us if you have any questions.

Learn-to-Sail

This is a fun, in-depth two-week camp that teaches the basics of sailing. Time will be spent both on land, and on the water learning wind direction, boat nomenclature, knots, and basic sailing techniques. Although no experience is necessary, sailors must be comfortable in the water while wearing a life jacket. Camp is Mon-Fri 9am-4pm. Ages 8-11. $850 per camp.

Opti Intro-to-Race

For sailors with less than a year sailing in Optimists (or equivalent), who understand the basics of sailing and want an intro to racing skills. Boats provided. Camp is Mon-Fri 9am-4pm. Ages 8-11. $500 per camp.

Opti Race Camp

For sailors who have completed Opti Intro to Race or have experience racing Optimists and seek to refine racing skills in a single handed boat. Sailors will be competing in regattas throughout the Bay Area on weekends. Boat ownership is mandatory after one season of Race Team Membership. Charters available. Storage included in class fee. Participation in weekend regattas expected. Many Race Team members participate in Opti Nationals each summer. This is optional, noted in italics. Camp is Mon-Fri 9am-4pm. Ages 8-13. $850 per camp.

FJ Intro Camp

For sailors who have outgrown the Optimist and want to learn how to race a double handed boat in preparation for High School racing at an introductory pace. Boats provided. Camp is Mon-Fri 9am-4pm. Ages 11-13. $500 per camp. *This class precedes 420/Laser Camp.

420/Laser Intro Camp

Sailors who have completed FJ Intro (or equivalent) and/or High School Sailing that want to learn how to handle the 15 ft. singlehanded Laser and the two-person C420 with spinnaker and trapeze. Sailor MUST be a competent skipper. Boats provided. Camp is Mon-Fri 9am-4pm. $900 per camp. Ages: 12-18.

420 Race Team

Sailors currently on the 420 Race Team and in the 420 Intermediate Class are encouraged to take this course. Those sailors on the High School Race Team with no prior 420 experience must contact the Director before enrolling. The hours of practice are set to allow the sailors to work, attend summer school, etc and still continue to build on their skills over the summer months. Many Race Team members will be competing on the East Coast in late July-early August (regattas noted in Italics). Cost per team member is $800.
