Fall 2019 Classes

  • Fall Registration will be open September 1-7
  • LINK to Registration will be published on Sept 1st.
  • Classes run from Sept 11 to Nov 24.
  • Boats are provided for all introductory level classes and High School Race Team. Boat ownership needed for Opti and 420 Race Teams.
  • Professional coaching
  • All sailors must wear a US Coast Guard approved life-jacket
  • Safety boat is present for all sessions
  • Cancellation Policy: $100 service charge for cancellation two weeks prior to first date of class. No refunds within two weeks of class start date. Those not removed from the wait list due to over-subscription will be refunded class fees.
  • PYSF Scholarships are available to help PYSF achieve its mission to be a community sailing group that teaches sailing regardless of ability to pay. To apply for a scholarship, complete the PYSF Request for Scholarship. Contact treasurer@pysf.us if you have any questions.

Opti Learn-to-Sail

Learn the basics of sailing while developing skills to prepare for sailing with others at PYSF and in the Bay Area. While no experience is necessary, sailors must be comfortable in the water while wearing a life jacket. Boats provided. Answers to FAQ can be found here. Ages 8-11. (12 students max per class) Cost: $750

  • Sat 10am-2pm, (8 Days):

*Some kids pick up the sport quickly, while others may repeat learn-to-sail multiple times before advancing to Opti Green. Your instructors will update you on the sailor's progress towards the end of the course. This class does not compete in regattas.*

Opti Intro-to-Race

For sailors with less than a year sailing in Optimists (or equivalent), who understand the basics of sailing and want an introduction to racing skills. Boats provided. Answers to FAQ can be found here. Ages 8-12. Cost: $600

*At the culmination of the course, those ready will be invited to join the Race Team: Green Fleet. This class does not compete in regattas.*

Opti Race Team: Green Fleet

For sailors who have completed Opti Intro-to-Race or equivalent and seek to refine their racing skills in a single handed boat. Boat ownership is mandatory after your first season on the team. Charters available. Answers to FAQ can be found here. Ages 8-13. Cost: $1000

Opti Race Team: Champ Fleet

For sailors who have graduated out of Green Fleet (or equivalent) and seek to refine racing skills in a single handed boat. Boat ownership is mandatory. Charters available. Answers to FAQ can be found here. Ages 8-13. Cost: $1000, or $1300 when also enrolled in High School Race Team and/or 420 Intermediate.

FJ Intro

Learn the basics of sailing while developing skills to prepare for sailing with others at PYSF and in the Bay Area. While no experience is necessary, sailors must be comfortable in the water while wearing a life jacket. This class is also for sailors who have outgrown the Optimist and want to learn how to sail a double-handed boat in preparation for High School racing at an introductory pace. Boats provided. *This class precedes 420/Laser Camp. Ages 11-15. (12 students max per class) Cost: $600

420 Intermediate

Sailors who have completed FJ Intro, 420/Laser Summer Course, or equivalent. Looking to perfect trapeze work, spinnaker handling, skippering and crewing. No partner needed. Boats provided. Answers to FAQ can be found here. Ages: 13-18. (12 students max). This class precedes invitation to the 420 Race Team. Cost: $800, or $1100 when also enrolled in High School Race Team

420 Race Team

High School Race Team

8th-12th graders. No experience needed. No pre-existing team needed. Attendance at every practice is preferred, but not mandatory. Regattas happen within the Bay Area, as well as throughout CA. Must be comfortable in the water. Boats provided. Answers to FAQ can be found here. Cost: $900

*Regatta participation is based on ability level and team size. Those schools of 4 sailors or more are eligible for every regatta listed. Those smaller teams, and/or those less experienced are suited for the local 1-Day regattas. Sailors that enroll as 8th graders are assigned by the Director to the school they plan on attending for the following year. Pairings for regattas are done by the coaching staff and coordinated through the Parent Reps for each school.
