  • Cancellation Policy: $100 service charge for cancellation two weeks prior to first date of class. No refunds within two weeks of class start date. Those not removed from the wait list due to over-subscription will be refunded class fees.
  • PYSF Scholarships are available to help PYSF achieve its mission to be a community sailing group that teaches sailing regardless of ability to pay. To apply for a scholarship, complete the PYSF Request for Scholarship. Contact treasurer@pysf.us if you have any questions.
  • Mark your calendars: Mandatory Info Night for all Opti and 420 Race Team members will be September 7th at Sequoia YC. Your sailor and/or one parent needs to be in attendance. A High School Info Night will be September 21st at Sequoia YC. A Parent Rep from each school must be in attendance.

Opti Learn-to-Sail

Learn the basics of sailing while developing skills to prepare for sailing with others at PYSF and in the Bay Area. Although no experience is necessary, sailors must be comfortable in the water while wearing a life jacket. Boats provided. Answers to FAQ can be found here. Ages 8-11. (12 students max per class) Cost: $650

*Some kids pick up the sport quickly, while others may repeat learn-to-sail multiple times before advancing to Opti Green. Your instructors will update you on the sailor's progress towards the end of the course. This class does not compete in regattas.*

Opti Green (Intro-to-Race)

WAITLIST ONLY - CLASS IS FILLED

For sailors with less than a year sailing in Optimists (or equivalent), who understand the basics of sailing and want an intro to racing skills. Boats provided. Answers to FAQ can be found here. Ages 8-11. (8 students max per class). Cost: $500

*At the culmination of the course, those ready will be invited to join the Race Team Practices for the remainder of the season. This class does not compete in regattas.*

Opti Race Team

For sailors who have completed Opti Green (Opti Intro-to-Race) or have experience racing Optimists and seek to refine racing skills in a single handed boat. Boat ownership is mandatory after your first season on the team. Charters available. Storage included in class fee. Answers to FAQ can be found here. Ages 8-13. Cost: $900

*For those current Race Team members unable to register for the season due to school/other sport schedules, we offer a per regatta fee. This can be used at one event over the season. Our intention is to build a team that works and improves together. And not to become an a la carte program. Please contact the Director if this is your scenario for the Fall.

FJ Intro

WAITLIST ONLY - CLASS IS FILLED

For sailors who have outgrown the Optimist and want to learn how to race a double handed boat in preparation for High School racing at an introductory pace. This is also for those new to the sport and looking to learn the basics. Boats provided. Ages 11-13. (8 students max). This class precedes High School Race Team (for those not yet in 8th grade) and 420 Intermediate. Cost: $500

420 Intermediate

Sailors who have completed FJ Intro, 420/Laser Summer Course, or equivalent. Looking to perfect trapeze work, spinnaker handling, skippering and crewing. No partner needed. Boats provided. Answers to FAQ can be found here. Ages: 13-18. (12 students max). This class precedes invitation to the 420 Race Team. Cost: $600, or $1000 when also enrolled in High School Race Team

420 Race Team

Sailors must be invited to join the 420 Race Team. Participation in practice, regattas and on-land assignments is mandatory. Answers to FAQ can be found here. Cost: $900, or $1200 when also enrolled in High School Race Team

High School Race Team

8th-12th graders. No experience needed. No pre-existing team needed. Attendance at every practice is preferred, but not mandatory. Regattas happen within the Bay Area, as well as throughout CA. Must be comfortable in the water. Boats provided. Answers to FAQ can be found here. Cost: $850

  • Nov 4-5: NorCal Divisional #1 @ EYC
  • Nov 11-12: PCISA #2 (Anteater) @ Newport Harbor

*Regatta participation is based on ability level and team size. Those schools of 4 sailors or more are eligible for every regatta listed. Those smaller teams, and/or those less experienced are suited for the local 1-Day regattas. Sailors that enroll as 8th graders are assigned by the Director to the school they plan on attending for the following year. Pairings for regattas are done by the coaching staff and coordinated through the Parent Reps for each school.
