The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) cordially invites YOU to attend the inaugural Women in Industry Conference, an inspirational event geared towards empowering the next generation of female leaders through 21st century learning.

Individuals of all ages are encouraged to attend the Women in Industry Conference for the opportunity to learn from an esteemed panel of female captains of industry who represent diverse professional sectors including keynote speakers, Sue Enquist and Candy Plahy.

Hailed as a “coaching legend,” Enquist concluded her storied 27-year career in 2006 with University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) as the winningest softball coach, having earned an overall record of 887-175-1 (.835) and produced 65 All-Americans and 12 Olympians.

Candy Plahy’s 29 years of professional experience extends from teacher, to administrator, to deputy superintendent, all within the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District. Dedicatedly, Plahy serves as a champion of quality education for all students.

Notable female industry leaders such as Executive Vice President for Universal Television, Erin Underhill, President of Crème de la Crème, Inc., Jennifer Wilson, and CIS/CSR Professor at Coastline College, Tobi West will also participate on the panel and share firsthand experiences involving their journeys, positions, and successes through a ‘Q & A’ session. PYLUSD Career Technical Education (CTE) Academy students will serve as hosts and moderators to the event in order to incorporate a student’s viewpoint with the professional perspectives of panel members.


The PYLUSD Women in Industry Conference will take place Tuesday, October 17, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Valencia High School Auditorium located at 500 N. Bradford, Placentia, CA 92870 and is free to the public.

Keynote Speakers

Sue Enquist

Sue Enquist is the winningest NCAA Division I Softball Coach in the country, she attained an unprecedented 11 National Championships and a winning percentage of .835 during her 27 yr. Coaching tenure. She developed over 65 All Americans and 15 Bruin Olympians. She is a 6-Time Hall of Famer. The former All American and USA World Champion is Founder/CEO of ONE Softball, LLC. an online company serving families in leadership, technical education and path to college. She is Founder/CEO of Bruwin Enterprises, LLC. a leadership and strategic partnership company. Her partners include: Toyota, Oracle, Adidas, Stryker, ESPN, and Major League Baseball. She serves multiple for profit start-ups and non-profit organizations. Sue is a former professional surfer who resides in San Clemente, CA.

Candy Plahy

Placentia Yorba Linda Unified School District Deputy Superintendent Candy Plahy is a champion of quality education for all students. Mrs. Plahy began her career as an elementary school teacher in PYLUSD. Her professional experience extends from teacher, to administrator, to deputy superintendent. Mrs. Plahy exemplifies PYLUSD core values of integrity, excellence, collaboration and innovation and her leadership extends throughout the District. As an instructional leader, Mrs. Plahy was instrumental in creating the District’s induction program and continues to serve as a mentor and role model for new teachers and administrators. Mrs. Plahy successfully promotes stakeholder relationships at many different levels in PYLUSD and partners with several organizations to build community relations. Mrs. Plahy is a local resident who enjoys time with her family and grandchildren.

Panelists

Michelle Barlow

Michelle Barlow is currently the Assistant Director of Facilities and Campus Services at Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, California, where she oversees new projects and renovations for campus facilities. Her previous position was as a Project Manager at PCL Construction Services, where she helped construct the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios and consulted on preconstruction for the Los Angeles Football Club stadium.

Michelle holds a B.S. in Engineering Technology from Cal Poly Pomona, and was President of the national award-winning Construction Management Association. Michelle is also a Valencia High School alumni (‘04), alongside her husband Jason. They live in Anaheim Hills, CA with their strapping 2-year- old, Jacob.

Erin Underhill

Erin Underhill was appointed Executive Vice President, Drama, Universal Television in June 2017. Previously, Underhill was Senior Vice President, Drama, Universal Television and oversaw the development on a slate of studio projects that will premiere this season, including “The Brave,” “Good Girls,” “Reverie” and “Rise” at NBC, as well as “Wisdom of the Crowd” at CBS. While previously serving as senior Vice President, Current Programming for NBC and Universal Media Studios (previous to being renamed Universal Television), Underhill was responsible for creative oversight of drama series such as “Parenthood,” “Southland,” “Heroes,” “Chuck,” “Friday Night Lights,” “Bates Motel,” “Shades of Blue” and “Chicago Fire,” among numerous others. Prior to that, Underhill was Vice President, Drama Development, at NBC and she also served then as Vice President, Current Series. During that period she oversaw such shows as “The West Wing,” “ER,” “American Dreams” and “Third Watch.” Underhill also was Director, Current Series, where she handled many of the same series that she later supervised as Vice President. She was named an Associate in Drama Development in January 2000, and later Manager of Current Series in August 2000. Underhill resides with her family in Los Angeles and is a graduate of UCLA.

Kathy Johnson

Kathy Johnson was the President of a single family residential construction and property management company for over 20 years. Her company designed and built custom homes, renovated fixer uppers before there were TV shows, managed apartments complexes and a leader in the early development of homeowner association management in Orange County. As a Board member and officer of a residential construction professional association, Home Builders Council and the National Building Industry Association Kathy was part of the team that created the Building Industry Technology Academies (BITA) implemented in partnership with AUHSD, NOCROP and the Building Industry Association of Southern California. Under her leadership the Design Build construction competition was established 28 years ago which is still a strong program in Orange County and holds an annual event every April. This Construction Pathway and Project Based Learning model is in nine OC schools and is currently being replicated in other regions of California. A believer in Career Technical Education has brought her to her position as President of Vital Link an intermediary between the education and business community.

Millicent Lumley

Millicent Watkins Lumley is a Director of Sales at Supermicro, a global leader in high performance, high efficiency server technology and innovation, ranked as the fastest growing IT company in the world. Prior to her corporate career and in keeping with her diverse and eclectic skillset, Millicent worked as a Program Director at a shelter for battered women and founded Kempton Lane Interiors with a business partner. She also holds the unpaid, volunteer position of mother of five. Millicent attended Scripps College in Claremont, CA where she studied English and Psychology with a minor focus in Women’s Studies.

Linda Greer

Linda Greer is an Education Programs Consultant for the California Department of Education. With 22 years of experience as a CTE Teacher, CPA Lighthouse Academy Coordinator, public speaker at the local, state and national levels, Linda provides technical support for state and federal funded CTE programs throughout California.

JoEllen Pitzer, MD

Dr. Pitzer has been practicing medicine in the community for fifteen years. In addition to her role as a primary care physician at St. Jude Medical Group, she is also the Physician Site Director for the Anaheim Hills clinic. She owned and operated a solo practice for ten years before joining St. Jude Medical Group. She is currently certified by the Medical Board of California and the American Board of Family Medicine.

Dr. Pitzer attended U.C. San Diego where she earned her B.S. and M.S. degrees in Bioengineering. From there, she earned her medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine where she graduated Cum Laude. She continued her medical training at Long Beach Memorial Family Medicine Residency.

Megan Rabin

Megan has 20 years of commercial experience. For the past seven years Megan has been in the technology industry at Matchbox Mobile out of the United Kingdom. As a shareholder and Director Megan runs sales for their North American Business. Megan began her career at Merrill Lynch as a financial consultant before moving to GE Capital where she held various sales and management positions. Megan’s time with GE afforded her an opportunity to gain experience in reinsurance, health care, financial assurance, construction, and hotel/restaurant finance. Megan holds a degree in economics from University of California, Santa Barbara, where she finished her college career following a transfer from San Jose State University where she started college on a Softball scholarship. Megan is an avid sports fan and frequent traveler. Her “hobby gone wild”, softball umpiring, takes up most of her spare time.

Robin Osborn

Robin has a 28-year history of being at the helm of her small family business in Southern California. Her remarkable entrepreneurial journey started at the young age of 21! She managed over 40 employees with a current employee retention record of over 30+ years. She has an intuitive understanding of both the employee’s and customer’s needs.

Robin oversees all financial aspects of Chromal Plating Company. She is responsible for preparing, and adhering to, a 5-year financial plan. Robin oversees all human resources and administrative functions. She has a strong sense for Sales and Marketing and works creatively to keep updating the company’s marketing tools.

Valerie Larsen-Campbell, JD

Valerie Gloria Campbell is an associate attorney at Gates, O'Doherty, Gonter & Guy, LLP. Her practice is devoted to corporate civil litigation defense, with a particular interest in defending manufacturers in "Lemon Law."

Valerie received her BA from Harvard University in 2008, and her JD from UCLA School of Law in 2012. Valerie lives with her husband and twin daughters in Yorba Linda, CA. In her free time, she enjoys singing in her Barbershop quartet and chorus.

Kate Schreurs, JD

Kate Schreurs is the owner of the Law Offices of Kate M. Schreurs. She has been practicing law for 26 years in Orange County, California and specializes in family law and adoption.

Kate was instrumental in the state of California issuing certificates of partnership to all Domestic Partners that registered with the state, giving them formal recognition.

Kate works pro bono for Laura's House supporting victims of domestic violence and preparing them for their court appearances. She graduated from Kansas State University with a BS in Kinesiology/Physical Education, and continued her post graduate studies at KSU, earning her MBA. She earned her Juris Doctor degree from Western State College of Law.

Tobi West

Tobi is a full time CIS/CST Professor at Coastline Community College in Garden Grove and is adjunct faculty in the CIS Department at Cal Poly Pomona. With a passion for cybersecurity education, Tobi focuses on developing career pathways for students to achieve their goals as a cybersecurity professional. In addition to teaching security related courses, she coordinates local training and competition for middle schools and high schools in CyberPatriot and CyberTech Girls at Coastline Community College.

Jennifer Wilson

Owner and President Jennifer joined Crème de la Crème in 1999 with a passion for creating and organizing events. In her dual roles as event planner and office administrator, she applied the disciplines she learned as a corporate accountant to reorganize the office structure and plan and produce one-of-a-kind events. Having been founder and Executive Chef Mark Miskiewicz’s right-hand for more than 13 years, she was more than ready to take the reins when he retired in 2013.

As owner of Crème de la Crème, Jennifer has taken her commitment to providing the highest quality product and service to new levels. Her vision for the future of her company embodies the company’s mission – Rise to the Occasion. Some of the prominent events that Jennifer has been involved with are the Academy Awards Green Room and Crew Feeds, the Susan B. Komen Pink Tie Ball, the KOCE Annual Gala, as well as events for Apple, Liberty Mutual, Nordstrom, Tesla, Audi, South Coast Plaza, the Anaheim Ducks, among the many. She was heavily involved in the design and production of the month-long Pasadena Showcase House of Design Café and the annual Nordstrom Holiday Rewards for over 10,000 guests. Ever mindful of the client’s experience, her motto is “Let us manage the details, so you can be a guest your own party!” Born and raised in Whittier, Jennifer and her family currently reside in North Tustin.

Mary Miller, JD

Mary Miller has been an attorney for the past fifteen years specializing in the defense of healthcare providers, both as a litigator and in-house general counsel. Mary is also a Registered Nurse and served for 27 years in the United States Navy Nurse Corps on both active and reserve duty, retiring with the rank of Captain. Mary holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Maryland, and a Juris Doctor from City University of New York School of Law. Ms. Miller was in New York City during the horrific events of 9/11 and put her medical and military background to good use volunteering her time and expertise to support all of the services involved in the recovery and cleanup efforts. Mary is an active member of the City and State Bar Associations, and in 2009 was sworn in as a member of the Supreme Court of the United States. She is also very active in her community; serving on the board of directors for local non-profit organizations and local community planning groups.
