Dear PWHS Choir Members and Parents, 

Welcome to the beginning of another exciting year!  In Port Washington, we have worked extremely hard to achieve our level of excellence as a quality choral program.  As we do every year, we will strive to fulfill the needs of those students who enjoy choral singing.  The choirs will perform a variety of styles of choral music including music from other cultures and time periods.  Stress will be placed on helping the individual singers develop sound vocal technique, skills as ensemble singers, and music reading (literacy) skills.  The choirs will have the opportunity to demonstrate these skills in daily rehearsals, in assignments and tests, at concerts, music festivals, contests, and other school events. 

Music has a unique way of creating ties that bind friendships that last and great music that moves us all.  It provides the very soundtrack of your child's high school career. Our kids love to make and share music with each other and with you - from great holiday concerts to honoring our seniors at the end of the year POP’s Concert and everything in between. 

Most of the progress individual choir members achieve will come through a willingness to be musically expressive, a desire to be an actively involved choir member, and attentiveness to musical detail in the music and/or to remarks given by the director.  To achieve a high degree of success, one must be willing to work individually to improve as a member of the PWHS Choral Program.  Talent is nice, but hard work is the real key to any program’s success.  If you are willing to put forth your time, talents, abilities and efforts, the possibilities of performance with your choir are virtually limitless. The limitations depend on your desire, determination, drive, dedication and self-discipline.

Again, I welcome you to the PWHS choral program, and I hope your year is filled with enjoyable music experiences, whole-person learning opportunities, and that you leave every day with a sense of accomplishment and pride!
