Take Home Chromebook Contract

Ownership

PVUSD retains sole possession of the chromebook.   A protection plan may be purchased that will cover the chromebook if it is lost or damaged; however, the chromebook must be returned when the student leaves PVUSD.

Receiving your Chromebook:

Parents and students must sign and return the Chromebook Parent/Student Agreement documents before the Chromebook can be issued to their child.  Please review this Chromebook Agreement form carefully.

Returning your Chromebook:

Transferring/Withdrawing Students:

Students who leave PVUSD school district must turn in their chromebook and all accessories (chargers and cases) on their last day of attendance.  Failure to return a chromebook will result in the student being charged the full replacement cost if they do not have a protection plan, as per CA Ed Code section 48904.

Unpaid fines:

As per CA Ed Code section 48904, students will be required to pay any outstanding fines prior to promotion to another school, or leaving the school district; e.g., graduating from high school.  Students who transfer to another school in PVUSD will not be checked out any educational material until unpaid fines are resolved.

Daily Expectations

Chromebooks must be brought to school every day:

If a student forgets their chromebook at home, they may receive a loaner from the school's librarian.  However, currently, we will only allow two chromebook loans per month, per student.  Subsequent infractions will result in calls to home for parents to retrieve their student's chromebook.

Chromebooks must also be brought to school charged:

Your chromebook must be brought to school each day with at least enough charge to do school work -- at least 50% is recommended.  There will be opportunities to charge your chromebook during class or breaks.  Inquire with the library for spare chargers.

Students will not use their chromebook in ways that goes against school policies:

For example you will not use your chromebook to bully, harass, intimidate, or impersonate others online.  Please consult the student conduct guide from your school as a guideline to model your chromebook usage.

Students will use their chromebook in a responsible manner:

The chromebook is the property of the school and district, and because of this, is covered under the provisions of CA Ed Code section 48904.  Any willful damages, defacement, graffiti by you or any other student will be subject to fines, fees, and further punishment.  Also, please treat your chromebook with care, as we will charge fines / fees for careless treatment.  As such, please consult the next section carefully.

Chromebook issues, damages, and fines

Chromebook cases:

Chromebooks should always be within the provided protective case.  Students caught not using the chromebook case will be levied an extra $10 fine for any subsequent chromebook damage or issues.

No stickers or writing (grafitti) on the chromebook:

Do not put stickers or write on the actual chromebook.  You may do so on the chromebook case, but not on the chromebook itself.   We will charge up to $5 per sticker / grafitti on the chromebook, unless the student is able to remove it themselves.

Lost chromebooks:

If you have lost your chromebook, please report it immediately to the librarian.  We will issue you a loaner and disable the lost chromebook.  If the chromebook has not been found in 2 weeks, we will use your protection plan (if you have one) to cover the loss, or you will be charged a fine for the full replacement cost of the chromebook as per CA Ed Code section 48904.  The fine will be $300.00.

Stolen chromebooks:

If your chromebook was stolen, please report it immediately to the librarian.  We will issue you a loaner and disable the lost chromebook.  You must then file a police report, and return a copy of the report to the librarian.  Once we receive the police report, you will be given a new chromebook free of charge.

Chromebook repairs (damaged or other technical issue):

If your chromebook is no longer working properly for whatever reason, please see the librarian for an exchange.  You will need to fill out a chromebook issues form with your student ID,  and we will try to repair your chromebook.  For issues that are due to standard wear and tear, or manufacturer defects, we will not charge a fine or fee, or use your protection plan (if you have one).  For all other cases, we will use your protection plan or levy a fee as listed in the next section.

Chromebook damages caused by other student:

If your chromebook was damaged by another student, please let us know.  We will investigate, and if it is determined to be the fault of another party, we will levy fines / fees / plan usage on them.  If it was determined both parties were partially at fault, we will split the fees 50 / 50.

Chromebook Protection Plan

We highly recommend purchasing the OPTIONAL protection plan to cover any chromebook repairs or losses, no questions asked.  The protection plan is active for the school year until either:

1) The plan is needed to cover a loss or repair

2) The school year has concluded

The cost is $25 for the year.  However, if the protection plan is used, the plan will no longer be active, and another plan will need to be purchased.  We will pro-rate the price of the plan every month so that if a plan is purchased halfway through the school year, the price of the new plan will be half of $25.  If we determine the chromebook damage or issue is due to standard wear and tear or manufacturer's defects, we will not use the protection plan to repair the chromebook.

Chromebook Repair Fees

For students who have intentionally damaged their chromebooks and have no protection plan, these are the fees below:
