Welcome to 6th Grade!

Dear SRTMS Students and Families,

What an exciting time! Back to school is an opportunity to put our best foot forward, set goals and challenge ourselves in ways like never before. I believe this year you will grow, change and be inspired to journey through uncharted territory as we explore expository writing, novels that will enlighten us about the hardships of others and unlock discoveries in ancient civilizations!

A few things about me...I have an 9 year old daughter named Emery who just started 4th grade at UPCS. She is quite excited for school, but also very inquisitive about all of you! I am sure she will be asking a lot of questions about you this year and, just as a heads up, she loves to make art projects for my students! If you see a random painting or drawing on your desk one day…chances are it’s from her! I am married and live in Newbury Park. I went to college at California State University Northridge and California State University Channel Islands. I also have a master's degree in Reading and Literacy. This will be my ninth year teaching and my fifth in the Pleasant Valley School District. I taught 6th grade ELA and History at Las Colinas Middle School before coming to SRTMS. I have a passion for teaching Language Arts and History! I believe that your active involvement in learning is the key to a great year!

Please feel free to contact me at any time!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Hughes
