Welcome to 6th Grade!

Dear SRTMS Students and Families,

What an exciting time! Back to school is an opportunity to put our best foot forward, set goals and challenge ourselves in ways like never before. I believe this year you will grow, change and be inspired to journey through uncharted territory as we explore expository writing, novels that will enlighten us about the hardships of others and unlock discoveries in ancient civilizations!

A few things about me...I have a 10 year old daughter named Emery who just started 5th grade. She is quite excited for school, but every year she becomes very inquisitive about my students too! I am sure she will be asking a lot of questions about you this year. She attends University Preparation School, is a dual language student, a Junior Girl Scout and a 2nd degree blue belt in Tae Kwon Do. Just as many of you are, she is a very busy little human, so I understand commitments outside of school, however, I also regard your commitment to school as a top priority. I believe it is all about finding a balance! I am married to my husband Nathan and we live in Newbury Park . I went to college at California State University Northridge and California State University Channel Islands. I also attended a college in New York where I received a master's degree in Reading and Literacy. I have a passion for teaching Language Arts and History! I believe that your active involvement in learning is the key to a great year!

I have a syllabus explaining my rules, policies and procedures that is accessible on this website as well as Google Classroom. Please feel free to contact me at any point for questions or clarification. The only way to be successful is to truly understand what is expected, therefore communication is VERY important! I am also very big on creating a positive and happy classroom community as well as building a safe environment for learning! Everyone is involved and important!

I look forward to a great year with you! Please feel free to contact me at any time!

All the best,

Mrs. Hughes
