ATTENDANCE/TARDY POLICY
You are expected to be in the classroom when the bell rings and/or on time. Pinnacle High School strictly follows district policy in regards to attendance and tardy policies. These can be found in your student hand-book.
EXPECTATIONS
The following rules encourage a positive learning environment, as all students have the right to learn without disruptions.
· Be respectful to yourself and to others.
· Be prepared for class with the required materials (listed above).
· Produce quality work that is your own and turn all work in on time.
· Do your best on everything!
· Appropriate language must be used at all times.
· No cell-phones are to be out during class lessons or work time!
Violation of the expectations will result in a consequence appropriate for the specific behavior.
HONOR CODE
Pinnacle High School trusts that each student will maintain high standards of honesty and ethical behavior. All assignments submitted in fulfillment of course requirements must be the student’s own work. All assignments except those designated as “group” are meant to represent the effort of each individual student. Group projects and assignments should represent equal efforts by all group members.
Academic Dishonesty:
- Cheating on tests or quizzes is defined as: viewing another student’s work, talking during a test, using unauthorized reference or notes, using unauthorized technology, or technology inappropriately.
- Cheating on homework is defined as: copying another student’s work, turning in another student’s work as your own, giving your paper to another student.
Students caught cheating will not be given any credit for that particular assignment/assessment!
COMPUTER ETIQUETTE
Please keep computers closed during note taking and any assignments that do not require use.
During homework, please stay on task. Do not go to other classes or websites if you still have work to do in this class.
Please have your computer and charger with you at all times, I do not have extra!
Cell Phone Policy
At Pinnacle, we realize that students will bring their cell phones to school. However, cell phones can be a major distraction to the learning environment. In the classroom, I have a cell phone box that students will place their phone in at the start of each period. Students may have their phone once the lesson and work is completed. Refusal to put a cell phone away or in the cell phone holder when instructed will result in a discipline consequence.
HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS
It is extremely important to practice each new concept that we learn. Therefore, it is essential that each student completes their regular assignments, as this is a key part to success in the course. Most homework assignments will be completed online through ALEKS or REVEAL. Homework assignments completed in ALEKS or REVEAL will be graded for accuracy. Worksheets and textbook assignments may be supplemented on occasion. All homework assignments are due the following Monday or the review day of the module quiz or test. No late work will be accepted after the Module Test. All work must be shown to receive credit for the assignment.
To ensure that sufficient help is provided, students will generally be given time to work on their assignments in class. Students are expected to utilize this time to work on the assigned material.
Aleks
This year a component of the course will be to fill in gaps in learning. Using an online program called Aleks, students will be tested and get remediation assignments based on how they did on the test. These remediation assignments will be a portion of their grade and students will have to finish a certain number of assignments every month
GRADING SYSTEM
The grade book categories that formulate each quarter grade are as follows:
Assessments…………………………80%
Homework/Formative.……..……..…20%
The semester grade is comprised of:
1st/3rd Quarter…………………………40%
2nd/4th Quarter.……..…………..…...…40%
Final Exam.……..……………....….....20%
GRADING SCALE
A = 89.5% - 100%
B = 79.5% - 89.5%
C = 69.5% - 79.5%
D = 59.5%-69.5%
F = 0% - 59.5%
INFINITE CAMPUS ACCESS
Infinite Campus allows parents/guardians and students to access the student’s grades, attendance, and other information. Please check this information frequently to stay on top of grades.
ABSENCES AND MAKE-UP WORK
Work missed due to excused absences needs to be completed promptly upon return to school following the student handbook’s guidelines for make-ups.
Tests/Quizzes: If a student is absent on a day where a test/quiz is given, the student is expected to take it immediately upon their return to class. If a student is absent only for a review day and returns for the day of the test, they will still be expected to take the test or quiz and will not be given an extra day to complete the assessment.
When absent, it is highly recommended that the student be proactive and check Google Classroom or Mrs. Burgess’ website and calendar to find the section that was covered as well as any notes and/or assignments that they missed.
LONG TERM PROJECT POLICY
Long term projects are due on the date and time assigned, as defined in writing in advance by the teacher. NO EXCEPTIONS. THIS SUPERSEDES THE MAKE-UP POLICY. If the student is absent, the PROJECT IS STILL DUE ON THE DAY ASSIGNED.
RETAKE POLICY
Students are eligible to retake up to 1 test per quarter. In order to be eligible for a retake, students must have all homework for that specific Module completed at a grade of 80% or higher. All retakes must be completed during the teacher’s extra help hours and arranged with the teacher ahead of time. The retake grade and the original test grade will be averaged together and updated in Infinite Campus upon completion.
EXTRA HELP
It is important to get extra help as soon as possible. My goal is to help you be successful in this course. We will constantly be building on previous concepts that we have learned, so in order to be successful, you must seek help before you fall too far behind.
HALL PASSES
E-hallpass is an online system that is used to manage all pass situations. E-hallpass replaces old fashioned methods of requesting a hall pass. The system utilizes current browser technology and is easy to use. Students log into the system using the Auth Portal and Clever. Students make a request for a new pass by selecting the teacher they are with and indicating where they wish to go. Teacher pass approvals (PINs) are then often required when leaving/arriving at your destination. This system will provide the school staff with important information and help manage our campus.
COMMUNICATION
Please contact the teacher for any student concerns via email. It is crucial that teachers, parents, and students maintain open lines of communication in order to ensure the best support for student success. Contact information is provided at the top of the first page of this syllabus. Students may message Mrs. Burgess through email, voicelink number or google classroom.
Pinnacle PBIS
Responsibility, Integrity, Success, Engagement
RISE is a school-wide program based on the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework. Staff, parents and board members have worked closely together to develop RISE which matches the principles of PBIS in a way that fits the goals, mission and culture of the Pinnacle High School (PHS).
School-wide PBIS is a research-based framework that has been proven to improve school climate, reduce problem behavior, and increase academic instructional time in schools (for additional information go to www.pbis.org). Two primary areas of emphasis in PBIS are prevention and instruction of social behavior. PBIS is based on the idea that when students are taught clearly defined behavioral expectations and provided with predictable responses to their behavior, both positive and corrective, all students are more likely to meet those expectations.
