Master's Internship in Human Services

Course Description

This course will provide students in the Master of Science in Human Services with practical experience in a professional field. It provides an opportunity to combine academic theory with new, career-related experience. At least 15 hours per week must be devoted to tasks that apply theory and academic content in a professional setting for a minimum of 150 out-of-class hours. Tasks must be delineated in the Learning Contract, which demonstrates an advanced application of academic theory in the workplace. 

Course Outcomes

HN598-1: Apply the theoretical knowledge gained from course work in a professional human service setting. 

HN598-2: Analyze ethical implications of decisions in a human service professional setting. 

HN598-3: Demonstrate application of professional competencies in the human service workplace. 

HN598-4: Assess cultural and individual differences that impact service delivery in the human service workplace. 

HN598-5: Evaluate the internship experience through the use of reflective practice.

Students must apply for the course one term prior to the internship term. The course is on a limited schedule, so plan ahead!
