Spark curiosity and build digital literacy with PebbleGo and PebbleGo Next— research tools made just for young learners!
In this course, you will learn how to navigate the PebbleGo site and its features while also exploring how the platform supports reading, writing, and inquiry across the curriculum. Dive into expert resources on digital reading, gather inspiration from fellow educators, and reflect on practical ways to boost engagement. Wrap up by creating your own classroom-ready activity that brings learning to life!
You will spend 1 Hour of time learning and exploring!
REQUIRED - Starred files (⭐️) on the top row are required learning.
Start by logging in to PebbleGo using your building’s credentials found in the ⭐️ starred file.
Be sure to bookmark the site for easy access during this course and in the future.
Next, watch the “Enhanced...Walkthrough” video (5") for an overview of how to navigate within PebbleGo and its features. After watching the video, take some time to explore PebbleGo on your own as well as dig into the content lists (starred file below)—this step should take you no more than 20 minutes, depending on your experience.
Before moving on, click the Padlet link in the Reflect section to review the reflection questions. Then, choose from the options below to complete the remainder of your 1-hour learning session.
** I HIGHLY recommend spending some of your time learning how to direct link to articles and modules (row 2 of resources) as this will be an amazing feature to help get students where you want them to be and will be needed in some of the artifact options below!
As mentioned in the video, your students have a widget on their iPads that will automatically log them in. Your teacher iPad also has this widget so you can experience Pebble Go on your iPad just like your students!
Reflect on your learning on this padlet board! Please include a short summary of learning, the knowledge you gained, and how it will impact student learning. This reflection should be under the category "Reflections from Learning" on the Padlet.
Based on your learning during this course and using your knowledge of the 4C's, identify a unit or activity that you can modify/create!
You will need to create TWO artifacts.
1) You must create a Seesaw Response Activity
2) Choose one of the other options listed for your second artifact. If you have other ideas, feel free to reach out and we can discuss the rigor and relevance of your idea.
REQUIRED:
Seesaw Reading Response Activity (Communication + Creativity)
Create a ready-to-use Seesaw activity prompt with step-by-step instructions for students to:
Read a PebbleGo article (direct link a specific article or a topic for student choice)
Record themselves summarizing what they learned or answering a reflective question
TIP: After creating your activity, try it on your teacher iPad to make sure your direct links work
Ties to: Any informational text module in HMH, Tools of the Mind read-aloud tie-ins, or a science/social studies unit.
ADDITIONAL OPTIONS (choose 1)
Option 1: Digital PebbleGo Scavenger Hunt (Content Consumption + Collaboration + Creativity)
Create a scavenger hunt using PebbleGo direct links. Have students solve clues and read articles across a curricular topic for background or enrichment knowledge (e.g., landforms, financial literacy, animal adaptations, states, famous people). Teachers embed critical thinking tasks at each “stop.”
TIP: After creating your activity, try it on your teacher iPad to make sure your direct links work
Ties to: HMH reading topics, Tools of the Mind’s content-based learning themes, or Science unit themes.
Option 2: Inquiry Journal Pack with Direct Links (Critical Thinking + Content Consumption)
Create a set of inquiry journal pages for students to explore a PebbleGo topic deeply. Each page guides students through asking questions, reading assigned PebbleGo articles (linked directly), and recording findings with vocabulary support and sentence stems.
Ties to: Science/social studies investigations in HMH or Tools of the Mind science play.
Option 3: Interactive PebbleGo Choice Board (Creativity + Critical Thinking)
Create a digital choice board (Seesaw, Canva, or Google Slides) featuring 6–9 standards-aligned tasks connected to a PebbleGo topic (e.g., animals, biographies, habitats). Tasks could include drawing, comparing/contrasting, writing, or creating videos.
TIP: After creating your activity, try it on your teacher iPad to make sure your direct links work
Ties to: HMH themes like Living Things, People Who Inspire, or Tools of the Mind’s dramatic play themes.
Option 4: “PebbleGo Learning Center” (Collaboration + Critical Thinking + Content Consumption)
Create a self-running learning center with:
A task card with direct links or QR codes to articles (TIP: use Google's built-in QR code generator)
A student recording sheet or accompanying Seesaw activity.
Optional hands-on or artistic task (e.g., build habitat with blocks, draw life cycle)
TIP: After creating your activity, try it on your teacher iPad to make sure your direct links work. If using QR codes, scan them to be sure they work as well.
Ties to: Tools of the Mind dramatic play centers or HMH content themes.
Option 5: PebbleGo-Integrated Writing Project (Content Consumption + Critical Thinking)
Design a writing project where students use PebbleGo to research and inform a piece of original writing—like an informational book, opinion essay, or narrative based on real events. Include anchor texts, planning templates, mentor texts (from PebbleGo), and publishing options.
Should be embedded into a writing unit already in your curriculum (align with one of your HMH modules or science / social studies unit) and show connections to writing standards.
Your hard work is complete! Please reflect on your work and share your completed task here on the Padlet board under the "Artifact and Reflection" category. Be sure to link your creation(s) and reflect on how student learning and engagement will be impacted by the activities you created.
