In this course you will dive into the effective utilization of technology, focusing on managing digital tools and enhancing student engagement. You will explore strategies for harnessing technology to optimize learning outcomes while mitigating distractions. The course emphasizes the development of strong classroom routines and procedures, as well as the implementation of behavioral engagement strategies to promote active student participation. By mastering these techniques, educators can create dynamic learning environments that maximize the benefits of technology while fostering student engagement and academic success.
You will spend 1 hour of time learning and exploring!
Choose some resources that inspire you! Challenge yourself to pick something out of your comfort zone or new to you. You will choose 2-3 topics (or 1 hour of learning) from each category below to explore. My top two recommendations are the Classroom App resources and the Engagement by Design resource.
Our new MacBooks now have the Classroom App on them so you don't need just your iPad.. if you haven't used it in a while or ever.. strongly recommend trying that one out!
Technology Behavior Management
Student Engagement
Reflect on your learning on this padlet board! Please include a short summary of learning, the knowledge you gained, and how it will impact student learning
For this course you will create 3 artifacts for the upcoming school year.
Artifact #1 -
Create a classroom technology rules poster that fits your grade level/subject area. Ideas for creation include using Canva, Pic Collage, Google Drawing, etc. Also think of how you will introduce these procedures and expectations at the beginning of the school year. Reflect on what this has looked like in past years and how you can make it more meaningful.
Artifact #2 -
Complete the Behavior Solutions - Teacher Audit of the Four C's in a Classroom located here.
Truthfully reflect and score yourself. Add up your points for each C: Climate, Communication, Curriculum, and Culture. You will not share your exact scores with me, they are just for your own reflection.
Reflect on the Padlet board about your results. Which "C" do you need to focus more on this year? What will you do to improve in that category?
Artifact #3 -
Based on your learning during this course and using your knowledge of the 4C's, identify an area to focus on that will improve student engagement. Create a lesson, task, assessment, project, activity, lesson plan, etc. that will boost your student engagement.
Ideas:
Make a game based activity for mundane skill practice (vocabulary, foundational skills, etc.) - Ex: a Lumio monster quiz focusing on weekly vocabulary words. How can you make this more action filled?
Think of a lesson that did not go well last year. How can you add or substitute an engaging technology tool to create an engaging lesson?
What is your plan for building trusting relationships with your students? Create a timeline/lesson plan of what you will do the first few weeks of school to create a trusting and inviting classroom.
What is your plan for finding the interests of your new students? How will you make their voice valued? Create a timeline/lesson plan describing what you will do to learn their interests. Create a Google Survey with questions about their personal interests that you will use to direct your instruction.
Still stuck? Look at the examples on the Padlet board or reach out to me to help you brainstorm!
Your hard work is complete! Please reflect on your work and share your completed tasks here on the Padlet board. Be sure to link your creation(s)! Check out what your colleagues created as well.
