Advice for State Testing
1. What advice would you give to students who are nervous about testing?
2. Do you have any tips for preparing for the test?
3. What behavior is needed during the test?
4. What are your biggest "don'ts" during testing?
Mr. Bugarin Mrs. Stanier Mrs. Burnett
"Just pretend the test is another homework assignment that isn't graded. Don't focus on it being graded and instead take your time, reread the questions more than once, take educated guesses, and something is better than nothing."
"Get good sleep, have breakfast, do your best, read the questions multiple times so u can fully understand it, and take notes about the questions. Something is better than a blank answer, and explain your work."
"You have to go in confident like you are going to own this test. Don't be insecure, you are going to kill the test and pass it. Don't jinx yourself, you have to believe in yourself."
"Don't be nervous, don't doubt yourself, don't second guess your answers, don't lose focus of what your goal is, and don't rush. It's not a race.
"This is just a test, it won't break you. Don't stress over it. Be confident."
"Remind yourself that you're smarter than you think. Get a good night's sleep. Taking care of your mental health before the test can help.
"Again, get a good night's sleep. Set an alarm. Eat and stay hydrated before the test. Take notes and read questions before reading the text, because reading the question first will make it easier to find what you're looking for in the text. Use the tools the test has like the notes and highlighting tools."
"Stay focused. Try not to worry about what is going on around you, which I know is hard, but you have to try and tune out everything else."
"Don't come with an empty stomach and no water, because it will be harder to focus. Your brain needs fuel to think. If you're sitting there without food and water in your system you most likely won't do well on the test."
"Don't be nervous. This helps us determine what classes you will take next year. Just take your time."
" Plan your day out the night before so you only have the test to worry about, and get some sleep. Eat breakfast before so you have energy, and the energy that goes to being nervous will go to digesting your food, so it helps with nerves."
"Have a calm attitude and be quiet so you don't interfere with the others testing. It'll allow you to get into your own space and block out everyone else."
"Don't make noises, and don't do things that will distract others."
