A Celebration Of Life
Celebrating Day of the Dead with “public” Displays.
Students in Reed Aubin’s Spanish classes have been preparing for a few weeks now to celebrate the traditional Latin American holiday of Día de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) in class and at home.
This year's celebrations make up for the lack of a normal school year and a normal Day of the Dead Celebration last year. We hope to get the whole Port Townsend community involved with the youth of this town and to honor loved ones who have passed away. Students worked to make large cutout skulls that they placed in the PTHS library windows. The PTHS facilities crew arranged to illuminate them from the inside, so the public can see the skulls from the outside.
These skulls will be lit up during evenings this week on Friday 11/12, and next week on Monday 11/15 and Tuesday 11/16. These students invite the public to drive by on Benton Street right outside of the High School to see the hard work these students have put into these ofrendas, and to help honor those who have passed.
One Spanish 3 student took on the task of welding this spectacular metal arc for the main ofrenda.
