LGBTQ TEACHER RESOURCE PAGE
This website contains well-curated lesson plans for a variety of grade levels and subjects, all pertaining to LGBTQ inclusivity in education. The final page contains additional resources and access to more lessons (please click on the "more" tab to the right to find the resource list). This site was compiled based upon input from Parsippany educators, New Jersey's LGBTQ-Inclusive Lessons and Resources, and other helpful resources.
These lessons offer authentic ways to engage with gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and marginalized identities across multiple content areas. While they are typically listed as being for a particular grade level, they are adaptable. Don’t let the grade level or the specific content area dissuade you from modifying the content!
While these lessons are written with a focus on LGBTQ identities, that these are one identity or part of an identity, and many of us experience life from multiple social and cultural identities. With that said, these lessons are a model, and as much as they may illuminate something which wasn’t seen before, they also demonstrate that there are many lessons we teach (and things we experience in life) that are inherently “silent” on gender and sexuality.
In the best of practices, these lessons are meant to be taught as living documents, serving as models for examining other lessons in your curriculum to seek locations of inclusion which weren’t previously apparent. It is the hope that these lessons are a springboard, and that you will then share the work you create with us and others, so that together we change the educational experience of Parsippany's students to be more open, inclusive, and accurate.
To the left please find a message about the purpose of these lessons. Please note that some of the phrasing and concepts in this passage are taken from NJ's LGBTQ Lessons and Resources.
