I am a postdoctoral researcher with over 10-year expertise in immersive virtual reality research. I am passionate about discovering the nature of experiencing self and others in both virtual and real worlds. My main area of interest is bodily self and virtual embodiment, especially in the context of chronic pain, tactile, and thermal sensations. I aim to disentangle the complicated relationships between the experience of having a (real or virtual) body and chronic pain, with special attention paid to fibromyalgia disorder. Among my other interests is the influence of virtual embodiment on environmental and social behaviour, especially in the context of climate change and harassment.
I have a privilege to learn from and collaborate with many excellent researchers from various disciplines and countries.
In 2023, I was awarded the prestigious JSPS Post-doctoral Fellowship, which allowed me to conduct research at the Saitama University alongside Prof. Masayuki Hara. This collaboration opened my new research pathways related to virtual self-touch and other multisensory illusions in virtual reality.
In 2024, I took on a role of a senior researcher in the META-TOO "Investigating gender-based inappropriate social interactions in the Metaverse" project, where I am conducting research on the influence of embodiment in harassment prevention and mitigation in the metaverse. The project, funded by the Horizon Europe, is coordinated by Prof. Maria Roussou from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and two partners, it is Prof. Maria V. Sanchez-Vives (IDIBAPS) and Prof. Ferran Argelaguet from Inria (France).
