Postdoctoral Scholar
Ryan was born in Poughkeepsie, NY. He graduated from Bucknell University in 2017 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering as well as minors in Applied Mathematics and Physics. Ryan joined CEARL in 2017 and completed his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at Penn State under the direction of Dr. Douglas H. Werner with a specific focus on the design and optimization of RF metasurfaces. He is currently a Postdoctoral Scholar at CEARL where he is continuing his work on RF metasurfaces as well as investigating several GRIN based solutions for beam steering and gain enhancement.
His research interests currently include reflectarrays, transmitarrays, RCS reduction and cloaking, reflector systems, gradient index (GRIN) lenses, metamaterial and metasurface design and optimization, plasmonic antennas, nanoantennas, electromagnetic theory, reconfigurable antennas, and computational electromagnetics. Outside of research, Ryan’s interests include hiking, biking, kayaking, ultimate frisbee, photography, and cooking.
