Riley Vandaveer

Riley grew up in Olathe, a suburb of Kansas City, Kansas. He graduated from Wichita State University in 2025 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and a minor in Homeland Security and in 2026 with a M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering. For his Master’s project, he worked to create a pitch-controlled wind turbine laboratory workstation that was capable of adaptive energy optimization and load utilization. He joined CEARL in 2026 and is pursuing his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering under the guidance of Dr. Douglas Werner.

Riley’s primary research interests lie in computational electromagnetics, adaptive and reconfigurable antenna systems, and electromagnetic spectrum operations with an emphasis on applications in electronic warfare, defense and homeland security. Outside of the lab, he likes to go on hikes and runs, read, play disc golf and hang out at the Catholic student center.
