50 pts. presentation
Objective: Using your "Ugly Ducking" script and unlimited resources (time/$) create a design plan for a production of the script.
Write a descriptive essay that explains your ideas for set, props, costumes, lighting, sound, and (if necessary) special effects. Be as descriptive as possible, but you should shoot for at least a good paragraph for each area. Remember to include colors, patterns, line, textures, shape. You will not read your essay in your presentation, but you should present the key ideas, themes, concepts, and choices when you present.
Sketch the set from the front perspective (not a bird’s eye ground plan!). You may add notes to your sketch to explain what objects are—but also the paragraphs on set in your essay will inform me. If you have multiple sets just choose one to sketch.
Sketch your character’s costume. You may add notes to your sketch to explain what objects are—but also the paragraphs on costumes in your essay will inform me. If you have multiple costumes just choose one to sketch. The costume must be drawn on a human figure: floating clothes aren’t okay. Include hands, feet (shoes), and faces: faceless costume drawings give me the creeps.
Your presentation should start with a statement, written or expressed, of what your director/designer vision for the production is. This vision should show your understanding of the plot, characters, setting, mood, and tone of the play, and how you plan to create those things for your audience. As you explain your design choices for the production, this vision should be recognizable in all of your design work.
*Note: if you go above and beyond you will be rewarded for that extra thinking/effort. Ideas for going above and beyond—lighting design, sound/music design, fabric swatches, making larger sketches, drawing more than one sketch, etc.
