**SPANISH 1B and SPANISH 2 ARE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL CLASSES! The grade for this class is reported on High School transcripts, and your child will earn 10 credits upon successful completion!

¡Bienvenidos a la clase de español!

¡Hola!

¡Qué fantástico!, ¿no?

As a parent, how can I keep track of what work my child needs to do?

"My child has been taking Spanish since kindergarten, and still can't speak it."

Speaking is the LAST skill to develop, and it takes a LOOOONG time to get to a point where you can spontaneously speak in Spanish.

Receptive (reading & listening) skills are more easily mastered than productive skills. Your child should be able to read and understand A LOT of (slow and clear) spoken Spanish by the time they leave middle school.  Don't worry if they can't speak it yet, or feel anxious when you ask them to showcase their skills while interacting with native speakers.  Your child is progressing, and their brain is doing what it needs to do (provided they are paying attention!) .  Stick with it, and it will develop over time.  Too many people quit before they can see how much language they do possess.

The best way to learn/acquire a language is through travel-- and not all travel is created equal!  The absolute best thing would be total immersion in the target culture with a HOME STAY!

Not only did I get my own jump-start to the Spanish language with an exchange to Spain when I was 12, both my middle school daughters did 6 week exchanges last year (one to Spain, one to France), and I cannot recommend this experience highly enough!

The exchange was through "Exchange Families . com"  and they did a magnificent job matching our families together for a fairly reasonable price. Check out their Facebook group and website for more information!

Teacher Appreciation Gift?

Thank you to all the parents who have given me so many coffees, burritos, movie tickets, etc. over the years! Although I truly appreciate all of these ...

What gives me (and my students) the most joy is the funny, silly stuff I can use for my lessons! If you are planning on gifting (and absolutely do not feel obligated to do so...) please consider a gift from my "Classroom Fun" list.   Please click on the image to the left to see what bizarre stuff would be thoroughly enjoyed in Spanish class!
