Welcome to 8th grade English!

We begin each day with a poem and the students interact with the poem in their writing journals for the first 10 minutes of class, so students who are absent should check in with their deskmate about the current poem.

We spend at least 10 minutes of class time a day reading a book for pleasure (called a D.E.A.R. book, which stands for "Drop Everything and Read," so students should come prepared with a book each day).

Daily homework is to read 30 minutes a day, Monday through Friday, although Friday's homework can be completed over the weekend.
