Hello Harris community,
Mr. Meikel, your child’s Art teacher at Harris Bilingual Immersion School here with an exciting announcement! Once again, Harris is partnering with the Poudre River Public Library’s, El Dia de Los Muertos (The Day of The Dead) celebration! Calaveras (skulls), designed and decorated by our school’s 3rd and 4th grade classes, will be featured and on display at the Old Town Library, located at 201 Peterson Street, beginning October 18th through November 7th. Check out the fun festivities the library has in store for this year’s celebration, and while there, take a look at the amazing Art our students put together expressly for this event!

Sr. Meikel, el maestro de arte de su hijo en Harris Bilingual Immersion School aquí con un anuncio emocionante! ¡Una vez más, Harris se está asociando con la celebración de El Día de los Muertos de la Biblioteca Pública del Río Poudre! Calaveras ( calaveras),diseñadasy decoradas por las clasesde 3º y 4º grado de nuestra escuela, se presentarán y exhibirán en la Biblioteca de la Ciudad Vieja, ubicada en 201 Peterson Street, a partir del 18de octubre hasta el7 de noviembre. Echa un vistazo a las divertidas festividades que la biblioteca tiene reservadas para la celebración de este año, y mientras estés allí, ¡echa un vistazo al increíble Arte que nuestros estudiantes reunieron expresamente para este evento!

Hello Harris students, parents and community!
Who's ready for some Art? I most certainly am! I can't wait to see our students back in the good ol' Harris Art room! I thought I would just drop you this note to let you know how Art will look this year, but to also tell you how I would like to use this learning page for the following:
Reporting important Art dates (Shows, etc.)
General communication of what we are and what we will be doing.
And, if necessary, this is where information can be found to attend classes should we go to remote learning.
T.A.B. or Teaching for Artistic Behaviors:
Before the pandemic hit, I began using a new approach to teaching Art. It was called T.A.B. This new approach was a smash hit with our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classes. And while I did not do full on T.A.B. with Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Grade, I began instituting methods into their lessons that would help prepare them for T.A.B. when they graduated to the later grades. Unfortunately, the pandemic and all the rules and regulations that go along with it, made T.A.B. to difficult to teach properly. T.A.B. allows students to work in groups, they share ideas and materials. You can see how this would be frowned upon during the height of the pandemic. Now, we know more about the virus, and as a result, I have been given permission to bring T.A.B. back in full!
For those of you unfamiliar with T.A.B., it is as philosophy that puts more ownership and responsibility of learning, projects, the Art room and materials, on the students. Projects can be done as a group, students are more free to explore their Artistic passions and take projects in their own directions. It fosters cooperation and deeper thought into the art they produce. Essentially, it is more student driven and the teacher becomes the facilitator as students take more command of their Art education.
If you have any questions about the T.A.B. philosophy, I am happy to talk with you and answer them. I also encourage you to research for yourself. It is a fascinating philosophy that has brought a new joy for Art to our students, and for myself, a breath of fresh air for how I teach.

So, with T.A.B. being used again and what appears to be a more stable environment pandemic-wise when it comes to our classrooms, it promises to be a fun and exciting year in the Art room and I cannot wait to get it started with our students! Hola Harris estudiantes, padres y la comunidad!
¿Quién está listo para un poco de arte? ¡Sin duda lo soy! ¡No puedo esperar a ver a nuestros estudiantes de vuelta en la buena sala de arte de Harris! Pensé que simplemente te dejaría esta nota para que sepas cómo se verá el arte este año, pero también para decirte cómo me gustaría usar esta página de aprendizaje para lo siguiente:
§ Reportar fechas importantes de arte (espectáculos, etc.)
§ Comunicación general de lo que somos y lo que vamos a hacer.
§ Y, si es necesario, aquí es donde se puede encontrar información para asistir a clases en caso de que vayamos a aprendizaje remoto.
T.A.B. o Enseñanza de Comportamientos Artísticos:
Antes de que llegara la pandemia, comencé a usar un nuevo enfoque para enseñar Arte. Se llamaba T.A.B. Este nuevo enfoque fue un gran éxito con nuestras clases de 3er, 4to y 5to grado. Y si bien no lo hice completo en T.A.B. con Kindergarten, 1er y 2do Grado, comencé a instituir métodos en sus lecciones que los ayudarían a prepararse para T.A.B. cuando se graduaran a los grados posteriores.
Desafortunadamente, la pandemia y todas las reglas y regulaciones que la conllevan, hicieron que T.A.B. fuera difícil de enseñar adecuadamente. T.A.B. permite a los estudiantes trabajar en grupos, comparten ideas y materiales. Se puede ver cómo esto sería mal visto durante el apogeo de la pandemia. Ahora, sabemos más sobre el virus, y como resultado, me han dado permiso para traer T.A.B. de vuelta en su totalidad!
Para aquellos de ustedes que no están familiarizados con T.A.B., es como filosofía que pone más propiedad y responsabilidad del aprendizaje, los proyectos, la sala de arte y los materiales, en los estudiantes. Los proyectos se pueden hacer en grupo, los estudiantes son más libres de explorar sus pasiones artísticas y tomar proyectos en sus propias direcciones. Fomenta la cooperación y el pensamiento más profundo en el arte que producen. Esencialmente, es más impulsado por el estudiante y el maestro se convierte en el facilitador a medida que los estudiantes toman más dominio de su educación artística.
Si tiene alguna pregunta sobre la filosofía T.A.B., estaré encantado de hablar con usted y responderlas. También te animo a investigar por ti mismo. Es una filosofía fascinante que ha traído una nueva alegría para el arte a nuestros estudiantes, y para mí, un soplo de aire fresco para la forma en que enseño.
