1.2 Multi-Step Equations

Labor Day Week

Because we do not have school on Monday, we will have our whole group class on Friday.

The whole group class will be time to work on the challenge with me in the call.

MAth Task

The students in Mr. Sanchez's class are converting distances measured in miles to kilometers (around 1.6 Kilometers in every mile). To estimate the number of kilometers, Abby takes the number of miles, doubles it, then subtracts 20% of the result. Renato first divides the number of miles by 5, then multiplies the result by 8.

  • Which student (neither, both, Abby, or Renato) is correct in their estimation?

  • Prove algebraically why each student is correct or incorrect.
