Sixth grade Social Studies is a project based class. The projects emphasize research and presentation skills as outlined by the state. We focus on Ancient Civilizations up to 600 C.E. Over the course of the school year we will discuss the origins of different civilizations and religions. About once a quarter students will complete a research project focused on these civilizations. Each quarter students will choose a unique topic and present their findings to the rest of the class. The way students choose to present their research is up to the students, as well. In the past students have created plays, built virtual models on Mine-craft, built real models, created multimedia presentations, created display boards and made movies. The projects are scaled to meet the students at their ability level and challenging enough to be learning opportunities for everyone.
