Why is this research study being done?
The study will evaluate the feasibility of two different dietary interventions – the low sulfur/vegan diet versus the specific carbohydrate diet. We believe that altering diet may have an impact on the disease by altering the microbiome, bile salts, fatty acids, immune function or other factors. The samples and information we collect in this study may advance other research to help individuals with PSC worldwide.
Who is eligible to participate in this study?
We are looking for participants with PSC and IBD between the ages of 18 and 70 years who are currently living in the United States
Participants may be referred by physicians nationwide, as the study can be conducted remotely
We plan to enroll 20 subjects
What will happen in this study?
Participants will be randomly assigned to either diet and will receive dietary education from our team of dieticians, including educational materials and recipes
The study will involve 7 remote video visits with a registered dietician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, as well as intermittent collection of bloodwork and stool
The study will take about 14 weeks to complete
Participants will also receive a food procurement stipend of $600.
If you’d like to speak with the study team regarding any aspect of the study, please feel free to contact
