The Dakota Access Pipeline is a 1, 172 pipeline beginning at the shale fields in North Dakota and traveling through South Dakota, Illinois and ending at Iowa. Standing Rock Sioux Tribe protested because this construction violated the Fort Laramie Treaty and the potential for oil spills to pollute the water supply and damage land.
