English Language Arts

Reading:

  • Identifies letters by letter name and sound to read familiar and/or new words
  • Demonstrates an understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds
    • 70% Grade specific Benchmarks for Primary Assessments
    • 20% Class work
    • 10% Teacher observation
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the organization and basic features of print
  • Reads emergent-reader texts with purpose and understanding
    • 50% Emergent Reading (Sept- Nov.) changes to 50% IRL (Dec.- June)
    • 30% Demonstrates comprehension by referring to text details
    • 10% Participation
    • 10% Observation

Writing:

  • Uses a combination of writing, drawing, and/or dictating for a variety of purposes
    • 50% Summative Assessments (PBA’s)
    • 20% Formative assessments

  • Uses Knowledge of letters and sounds in writing
