PS130 Guidance REsOURCES
Parent and student resources curated by our guidance counselors!
With leadership from our guidance department, we integrate Responsive Classroom student-centered, social and emotional learning approach to teaching and discipline, as well as RULER an evidence-based approach for integrating social and emotional learning into schools, developed at the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. Additionally, our counselors facilitate practices such as the Peace Path, Heart Math, meditation, mindfulness, movement breaks and yoga, and other research-based practices for social emotional health and learning.
CoronaVirus Update and remote Counseling
As the staff entered the building today, we all expressed missing the kids so much already. Teachers are here planning for all of the academic details, while Mariasara and I are working on how to best provide social-emotional support to our students.
We know that when children have pressing thoughts and/or questions on their mind, it can be difficult for them to focus on academic tasks. As online learning develops this week, Mariasara and I would like to help you use this family time to sit together and welcome your children to ask questions and share how they are feeling. Really spend some time - just taking care of their hearts.
We are slowly beginning to add resources on our PS 130 website, please click on Programs and read our social-emotional learning page. For now, there are two links that we suggest for talking to your children about the Coronavirus (COVID-19) provided by 1) Child Mind Institute and 2) PBS. We found the information on these websites the most helpful.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to us and share your pearls of wisdom with us. Please take care of each other.
