MEDICATION EXCLUSIONS

ACETAMINOPHEN (TYLENOL) DO NOT GIVE:

  • Patients with liver disease or impaired liver function

  • Patient has taken acetaminophen in the last 8 hours

  • DO NOT exceed a total of 3 g acetaminophen in 24 hours

CELECOXIB (CELEBREX) DO NOT GIVE:

  • Allergy to NSAIDS or Sulfa drugs

  • Elevated creatinine >1.4

  • High-risk for GI bleed (or known ulcer disease)

  • If patient is already taking Celecoxib prior to surgery:

      • If patient took usual morning dose, no further administration necessary preoperatively

      • If patient missed usual morning dose, patient to receive their usual dose of Celecoxib x1 dose

GABAPENTIN (NEURONTIN) DO NOT GIVE:

  • Allergy/history of intolerance to Gabapentin

  • Age >65 – exception if on Gabapentin preop

  • If patient is already taking Gabapentin prior to surgery:

      • If patient TOOK usual morning dose, no further administration is necessary preoperatively

      • If patient MISSED usual morning dose, patient to receive usual home dose of Pregabalin or Gabapentin x1 dose

SCOPOLAMINE (SCOP PATCH) DO NOT GIVE:

  • Age >65

  • History of acute angle glaucoma
