Unplugged Literacy Activities

Go on an alphabet hunt. Start by finding an item that begins with the letter A somewhere in the environment. Then continue in order through the rest of the alphabet.

Share campfire stories (fire optional!). Whether you are outside in the backyard or inside where it's cozy and dry, sharing stories is fun! Take turns sharing real or make-believe stories with each other.

Bring a book to life. Books can inspire us in so many ways: create a work of art, try a new activity, make a new recipe together or even put on a play inspired by the book.

Make your own bookmarks.

Keep a reading diary. Using paper or a blank journal, keep track of the books you read. Write about details you enjoyed in the story or who you might recommend it to. Be sure to include your rating of the text!
