Student & Family Handbook
This handbook is a valuable resource containing important information about school policies, procedures, and expectations. It provides details on student conduct, academic policies, and other essential guidelines for a successful school year. It is crucial for our families to sign and acknowledge that they have received and read the handbook as it ensures that everyone is aware of the rules and expectations, fostering a collaborative and supportive school community. Once ParentSquare is launched, you will receive a request to complete a form acknowledging you have received and read through the 2024-25 Student & Family Handbook.
Required Forms
Family Income Application : At the beginning of every year, we require a family income form. If you would like a head start on the income form this opens in early July. We need this information to report to city and state authorities for our funding as well as determine costs for events like field trips. This is also used for scholarship opportunities for afterschool programming!
A flier can be found HERE. The form can be filled out using the school’s information at https://www.myschoolapps.com/.

IES Uniform policy
At Prospect Schools, we believe that school uniforms help to create a sense of community. Wearing a uniform nourishes a sense of belonging and emphasizes the idea of the collective over the individual. Rather than having a uniform policy, we have established a dress code; one that allows students to feel comfortable being their authentic selves as part of a community for whom learning is the primary focus. Our expectations are below:
Students may not wear hats or headgear of any type in the building. Headphones (including earbuds) are not allowed in the hallways or classrooms. Religious observance and health-related headgear is exempt.
All students are required to arrive at school in full uniform. The school uniform must be worn respectfully and through the completion of the school day. The final decision concerning the appropriateness of clothing will be made by the school administration. Parents of students who arrive in school out of uniform will be contacted to bring a change of clothes.
Dress Code:
Tops- Polo shirt with IES Prospect Schools logo/monogram in white, hunter green, long or short sleeve and with Brooklyn Prospect logo, green PE shirt, any IES designed school shirt from past IES community events (Field Day/PTSO, etc). Shirts must be worn at least to the waist of pants.
Bottoms- Students are welcome to wear any brand or color of trouser, jeans, shorts, skirt, or drop waist jumper. Solid, small logos are allowed. Ripped jeans are prohibited.
Sweater/Sweatshirt/Hoodies- Prospect sweater or athletic sweatshirt with BPCS/Prospect Schools logo, sweater, hoodie or fleece. Polo or t-shirt must be worn underneath. For hoodies, the same rules apply and the hood should remain down during the school day.
PLEASE NOTE:
Students do not change for physical education.
A BPCS regulation shirt must be worn under jumpers and overalls.
Shorts must be worn underneath skirts and dresses.
Shorts, skirts, (and any slits) must be no higher than two inches above the knee.
No flip-flops or slides are allowed due to their potential to cause accidents.
Hoods may not be worn inside the building; this includes hats or other types of headgear (includes boys and girls). Only head coverings as part of a religious belief or medical need will be allowed.
All pants, shorts, skirts, and skorts must be worn at the waist. While shirts are not required to be tucked in, a belt is required if pants, shorts, etc. do not remain at the waist. Trousers, shorts, etc. must be solid, and cannot have stripes, logos, imprints, etc.
No clothing or jewelry may be worn with inappropriate, discriminatory, or questionable language or images.
Examples of words or images that are not allowed include those that: are gang-related; negatively stereotype any group; discriminate on the basis of gender, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, ability, or religion; promote drug, alcohol, or tobacco use; depict violence; have sexual innuendos, or are blatantly disrespectful of others’ beliefs.
Consequences for Being Out of Dress Code:
Referral to the Deans Office.
A change provided from donated uniforms with the expectation that the clothing is corrected.
Continued violations in a marking period will result in a family call or meeting with an appropriate action plan designed
