Sin-Yi earned her PhD from the University of Washington (UW) in the United States and is currently a postdoctoral researcher at Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) in South Korea. Her research interest specializes in chemical and photochemical reactions during water and wastewater treatments. Her studies focus on developing novel advanced chemical oxidation processes, identifying reactive species, elucidating their behaviors with contaminants during these reactions and performing assays and models to quantify their impacts on abiotic or biotic contaminant elimination. Sin-Yi has years of experience in a variety of chemical analyses using multiple analytical instruments for environmental samples. She has also participated in many projects regarding water quality monitoring, water reuse/reclamation, and developing methods for water/soil contaminant analysis for industries.
