Jerry Kai-Chun Fu is a PhD candidate in Social Work at Boston University. His research examines how exclusionary policies targeting sexual and gender minorities are formed and sustained, from school district sex education debates to state-level anti-transgender policy, and how they translate into disparities in sexual and mental health. He grounds this work in structural stigma theory, alongside other theoretical lenses, and uses both qualitative and quantitative methods to generate evidence that informs advocacy and policy practice. 

Before starting his doctoral training, Jerry worked as a licensed school social worker in Taiwan, where he designed and implemented innovative, gamified school-based sex education programs aimed at improving young people’s sexual health. He has also been involved in LGBTQ+ and HIV-related policy advocacy for over a decade. 

He looks forward to connecting with scholars and practitioners interested in sex education, LGBTQ+ health, sexual health, and social justice, and hopes to support students from Taiwan who are preparing to pursue their studies abroad.
