As per the June meeting...

Knights are advised of the development of the "Cor Program", as an effort to revitalize the prayer life, faith formation, and bonds of fraternity amongst Knights. We have hopes of actively engaging in the Cor Program soon.
Knights are reminded that the Brooklyn Independence Day Parade will be held on Sunday June 25. The day will begin at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, and conclude at St. Agatha's. As the 2022-2023 Columbian Year comes to an end, Knights are reminded that Membership dues will be collected with the onset of the NEW 2023-2024 Columbian Year. All Knights are asked to be prepared accordingly for the July Meeting. Payments and/or questions should be directed to the Financial Secretary or the Grand Knight.
As the NEW 2023-2024 Columbian Year quickly approaches, Knights are reminded of the need for active recruitment of men into the Council. Preliminary discussions were held about sponsoring a council-based degree exemplification in August.
Knights are reminded that the Sunday Mass is at the very heart of our Catholic Faith, and of the importance of weekly attendance. Knights are further reminded of the many blessings of Eucharistic Adoration, and are encouraged to participate.
Knights are reminded that the June Food Pantry, sponsored in cooperation with the St. Brendan's Youth Ministry, will be held on Saturday, June 24. Please contact the Grand Knight for further information.

As per the May meeting...

St. Brendan - Morning Star Council No. 294 offers Congratulations to the children of St. Brendan's Parish who made their First Communion on May 7. Additional Congratulations are offered to the children who will be Confirmed on May 18.
St. Brendan - Morning Star Council No. 294 joins with the Parish of St. Brendan's in welcoming Most Rev. Robert Brennan, Bishop of Brooklyn, to St. Brendan's on May 18.

The Kings County Conference will be hosting a Charity Ball at Russo's on the Bay, on May 20, in support of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA. Tickets for the event are $100. Knights are reminded that St. Brendan's will be conducting a Corpus Christi procession around the parish property on Sunday, June 11. Please contact the Grand Knight for further information.
In anticipation of the upcoming Officer Elections, and in response to limitations in the availability of candidates for certain positions, St. Brendan - Morning Star Council No. 294 considered and passed a motion to permit a fourth consecutive term for any officer presently in their third term who chooses to seek re-election.
Officer Elections will be held at the June 2023 meeting - NEXT MONTH. Initial nominations were conducted at the May meeting; additional nominations may be considered at the June meeting, prior to the actual vote. All Knights are encouraged to consider what roles they can play in the continued growth and development of the Council. To aid in Knights' discernment, the Duties and Responsibilities of Council Officers and Directors may prove useful.
St. Brendan - Morning Star Council No. 294 is pleased to note that May 16 is the Feast of St. Brendan, patron of our parish and co-namesake of our council.

As per the April meeting...

St. Brendan - Morning Star Council No. 294 thanks everyone who worked the Palm Sunday Hospitality and Sunday with the Easter Bunny event. The Council further thanks all Knights who participated in the liturgies of Holy Week, especially in relation to the Council's participation at the Repository Tabernacle on Holy Thursday night.
Knights are reminded that the Council will be running a Hot Dog Sale this upcoming Sunday, April 16, in conjunction with the drawing for the parish Easter Super 50/50 Raffle, after the 11am Mass. Questions regarding the Hot Dog Sale should be directed to Grand Knight SK Alex DeMarchena, or to Hot Dog Committee Chairmen Luc Dorsinville and Derek Gonzales. Any Knights interested in aiding with Raffle ticket sales should contact the Grand Knight.
Looking ahead, the Kings County Conference will be hosting a Charity Ball at Russo's on the Bay, on May 20. Tickets are $100. St. Brendan - Morning Star Council No. 294 salutes Dcn. Bob Cosgrove, who earned the Fourth Degree of membership at the recent exemplification for that degree this past month, entitling him to the honorific of Sir Knight. Any Third Degree member of the council who wishes to seek the Fourth Degree at a future exemplification is encouraged to speak with the Grand Knight. Congratulations SK Dcn. Bob!

As per the March meeting...

As per recent communiques from the Supreme Council, and as we continue to proceed through the Lenten season, Knights are reminded that being "Knights of Columbus" also implies that they are "knights of the Eucharist". To this end, Knights are reminded of the importance of regularly attending Sunday Mass, of attending weekday Mass if possible, and of attending Eucharistic Adoration as practicable. Knights are further reminded that being "Knights of Columbus" also implies being "knights of Mary", and of the inherent importance of attending to Marian devotions as well.
St. Brendan - Morning Star Council No. 294 congratulates all who participated in the Kings County Conference Free Throw Competition, held on Saturday March 4, in the St. Brendan's gym. Council No. 294 thanks the Kings County Conference for the opportunity to participate in this event, and looks forward to future collaborations.
Knights are advised that St. Brendan's R.C. Church will be offering a Cenacle Evening of Prayer Lenten Retreat on Wednesday, March 22, to be led by Deacon Armand D’Accordo, of St. Francis de Sales Church (Belle Harbor).
Knights are reminded that St. Brendan - Morning Star Council No. 294 will be sponsoring Hospitality on Sunday, April 2 (Palm Sunday), after both the 9am and 11am Masses. The 11am Mass hospitality will be in conjunction with the parish's Sunday with the Easter Bunny activity. Please contact Grand Knight SK Alex DeMarchena for further information.
In anticipation of Holy Thursday (April 6), Knights are asked to make themselves available to serve as an Honor Guard at the Repository Tabernacle, from the conclusion of the Mass of the Lord's Supper to 11:00pm. Knights may be rotated in shifts as needed. Please contact the Grand Knight for further information.

Knights are reminded that Lent fast approaches; to that end, Knights are encouraged to consider the reflective quality of the Lenten season, and to take advantage of this opportunity of the ongoing process of conversion.
Knights are reminded of the Council's commitment to the Rosary for Life and for Vocations, held on the first Monday of each month, and are encouraged to actively participate, as practicable.

As part of the National Eucharistic Renewal, Brooklyn Diocesan Deanery 11, of which St. Brendan's is a part, will host a deanery Corpus Christi procession and Eucharistic Adoration on Saturday, June 10, at Good Shepherd Parish. This will, of course, be followed by the parish Corpus Christi procession on Sunday, June 11, around the St. Brendan parish property. Please contact the Grand Knight for further details.

As per the January meeting...

As the new Calendar Year begins, marking the second half of the Columbian Year, the Council begins to anticipate the Officer Elections, which will occur at the June 2023 meeting. It is our goal to avoid additional term limit waivers for this upcoming year; To that end, Knights are encouraged to consider what new roles they can play in the continued growth and development of the Council. To aid in Knights' discernment, the Duties and Responsibilities of Council Officers and Directors may prove useful.
All Knights are reminded that the dues for the new 2022-2023 Columbian Year are very much due. Payments and/or questions should be directed to Financial Secretary Patrick Turturro or Grand Knight SK Alex DeMarchena.
Knights are asked to call to mind the essentiality of the Eucharist in the life of a Catholic; Consequently, Knights are reminded of the importance of attending Sunday Mass regularly, and are further encouraged to attend daily Mass and Eucharistic Adoration as practicable.

As per the December Meeting...

St. Brendan - Morning St. Brendan - Morning Star Council No. 294 expresses it thanks to all members who assisted at the Hot Dog Sale, the Sunday with Santa, and the Christmas Wreath Sale. Knights are encouraged to consider what future fundraising and social activities the Council may engage in in the new year.
Knights are advised that the December Food Pantry has been RESCHEDULED from December 10 (the second Saturday of the month) to December 17. All other details remain the same. Please contact Grand Knight SK Alex DeMarchena for further information.

As per the November Meeting...

St. Brendan - Morning Star Council No. 294 is pleased to announce its Hot Dog Sale on Sunday, November 13, following the 11am Mass. All Knights are encouraged to assist. The Kings County Conference is sponsoring a Memorial Mass for deceased Knights on Wednesday, November 16 at 7:30pm, at Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Church. Bishop Robert Brennan is scheduled to be the celebrant. All Knights are welcome to attend.
St. Brendan - Morning Star Council No. 294 will RESCHEDULE the November Food Pantry from November 12 (the second Saturday of the month) to November 19. All other details remain the same. Please contact the Grand Knight for further information.
On November 20, the Solemnity of Christ the King, St. Brendan's will install a new statue of Blessed Carlo Acutis, as part of the parish's participation in the National Eucharistic Revival. All Knights are encourage to attend as a group.
Relating to the National Eucharistic Revival, Knights are reminded of the Eucharistic foundations of our order, and of the implicit and explicit call for Knights of Columbus to also be "Knights of the Eucharist". Knights are encouraged to consider what they can do personally to increase Eucharistic Devotion in themselves, in their families, and in the parish

St. Brendan - Morning Star Council No. 294 offers a hearty "Thanks and Best Wishes" to Vinny Mangual, who most recently served as Outside Guard in the Council, along with a plethora of other roles throughout his time in the parish. Vinny's loyalty, commitment, and counsel will no doubt remain much respected, even if distance precludes his active participation.

St. Brendan - Morning Star Council No. 294 thanks everyone who participated in the Blood Drive on Sunday, September 18.
Knights are reminded that the Installation of Officers will take place on Sunday, September 25, following the 11am Mass. The Installation of Officers, along with the reception thereafter, will be held in the Auditorium. All Knights are encouraged to attend the Mass, the Installation, and the reception. Knights are asked to inform Grand Knight SK Alex DeMarchena ASAP if they plan on bringing guests, so that proper preparations can be made for the reception.
Thursday, September 29 marks the 115th Anniversary of the Founding of the Parish of St. Brendan's. There will be a specially scheduled Mass marking the occasion at 7:30pm that evening, scheduled to be celebrated by Most Rev. Octavio Cisneros. All Knights are encouraged to attend. St. Brendan - Morning Star Council No. 294 is pleased to announce the return of the St. Brendan Parish Food Pantry (co-sponsored with the Parish Youth Group) as of Saturday, September 10. The Pantry will be open to the public from 11am to 2pm. All Knights are asked to assist with this effort, as practicable. Please contact Grand Knight SK Alex DeMarchena for further information.
All Knights are reminded that Sunday, September 11 will be September's "Knights Sunday". It is the hope of the council to make a concerted effort to make "Knights Sunday" a particularly special expression of the Faith and Fraternity of the Knights in general, and our council in particular. As per the July Meeting...

St. Brendan - Morning Star Council No. 294 started the new Columbian Year with great enthusiasm!
Knights are reminded of the 2022-2025 Eucharistic Revival launched by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Knights are asked to consider the role which they as individual men, together as a Council, and in union with the Knights across the nation can take on in helping to spread the meaning and impact of this great effort of the Catholic Church in the United States.
At the onset of this new Columbian Year, it is the Council's goal to redouble its efforts to bring about real, tangible impacts in the life of St. Brendan's Parish and the surrounding community. To this end, Knights are reminded of the critical importance of their actual physical presence at Council-sponsored events and activities.
St. Brendan - Morning Star Council No. 294 joins with the Supreme Council of the Knights of Columbus, with Catholics across the United States, and with people of good will throughout the country in noting the actions of the United States Supreme Court in the recent Dobbs decision, which repudiated the infamy of Roe. Supreme Council has announced its ASAP Initiative - Aid and Support After Pregnancy - which will seek to provide five million dollars to pregnancy centers and other agencies which support newborns and their families.
In an effort to better unify Council activities, the Food Pantry, when it reactivates in September, will be operated on the Second Saturday of the month. This better links our main charitable effort to our Council liturgical activity, Knights Sunday, which is held on the Second Sunday of the month.
St. Brendan - Morning Star Council No. 294 is pleased to announce that it is working with the New York Blood Center to schedule a Blood Drive in the fall.
Some dates to be aware of:
- - August 13 - The Feast of Blessed Michael McGivney. The New York State Council is sponsoring a Mass of celebration at St. Joseph's Seminary (Dunwoodie), scheduled to be celebrated by His Eminence, Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop of New York.
  - September 25 - Installation of Officers, following the 11am Mass
  - September 29 - The Feast of the Archangels; also, the 115th Anniversary of the Founding of St. Brendan's.
All Knights are reminded that the dues for the new 2022-2023 Columbian Year are due. Payments and/or questions should be directed to Financial Secretary Patrick Turturro or Grand Knight SK Alex DeMarchena.
Motions were considered and passed regarding the adoption of Forest Green as a single uniform color for the Council polo shirt, for use at public Council activities and other related events when a common identifier would be of particular usefulness. Shirts in other colors will continue to be available, but for wearing at those times when uniformity is not as necessary. Please contact the Grand Knight for further information.
