Zebras

Zebras seem like the perfect subject for vector painting. I used SketchClub to create a vector painting of these two zebras. Then I used iColorama to create a glossy surface and a feeling of depth.

Using a photo as reference, I started drawing two zebras in SketchClub, using the Pen tool for the outlines and the Vector tool for the shapes.

I continued drawing the shapes.

On a new layer below the zebras layer, I used the Vector tool to draw shapes for grasses, using several different shades of beige.

I continued drawing the grasses, and then on a new layer just below the zebras layer, I used the Brush tool with a hard round brush to paint white where the zebras are. I did this so that the grasses didn’t show through the zebras.

On a new layer below the other layers, I used the Vector tool to create a shape for the sky. On the zebras layer, I erased most of the outlines of the zebras.

On a new layer just above the sky layer, I used the Vector tool to create a shape for a treetop.

On a new layer just above the treetop layer, I used the Vector tool to create a shape for the tree trunk.

On another new layer just below the zebras layer and just above the white zebra-shape layer, I used the Vector tool to create shapes for shadows on the zebras. I used two colors for the shadows.

On a new layer below the other layers, I used the Vector tool to create a shape for the background.

On another new layer below the other layers, I used the Vector tool to create another shape for the background. I exported the image to my camera roll.

I opened the image in iColorama. I used Effect/Glow Preset 1 at low opacity to try for a bit of depth.

I used Effect/Raise Preset 1 at low opacity for a bit of 3D effect.

I used Style/Flat preset 18 at low to medium opacity, trying all the sliders. I sharpened the image using Effect/Sharpen at low radius.

Another version, from blending with another image, trying all the blending modes and slider settings.
