I was fascinated with Rijksmuseum photos of centuries old women's clothing. These dresses are exhibited on headless mannequins. I tried to animate the dress through blending with a lively flowered scene and applying some texture with a bit of energy to it.
I started with this photo from the Rijksmuseum website, which provides high-resolution images free to use and modify for any purpose, in their Rijksstudio.
I also used this Rijksmuseum image.
In Effect/Blend, I blended the dress onto the flowers. I tried several blending modes and slider settings, including the lightness and gray sliders under Set.
Here are my settings in Soft Light blend mode.
Now I used Adjust/Tonelab preset 4 for depth and clarity, and Adjust/High 1 for a bit of sharpness.
Using Effect/Blend, I blended the original dress image back at low opacity in Soft Light blending mode.
Here are my settings in Soft Light blending mode.
Now I applied Style/ET-Flow, which creates all that swirly texture.
As finishing touches, I used Adjust/Tonelab preset 4, Adjust/High preset 1, a few presets in Effect/Denoise, Effect/Sharpen 2, and Tone/Enhance. I applied a slight blur and saved, then blended it back in Darken mode at low opacity, to soften the image.
