Shopping

I created this image of a woman shopping, using SketchClub to paint the woman with vector shapes and pen outlines. For the pattern on her dress I used a flower painting I made in SketchBook Pro, from which I created a flower patterned texture in MetaBrush. Then I used iColorama to adjust color and tone of the overall image, and to create a textured look.

I opened a blank canvas in SketchClub. I used the Vector tool to paint a shape for the dress.

I will use this pattern for the dress. I created the pattern in MetaBrush using the method I describe here.

This is the image I used to make the MetaBrush pattern. I painted this flower painting in SketchBookPro, using a variety of different brushes to create different components on different layers.

Back in SketchClub, I created a new layer above the dress. I imported the MetaBrush pattern onto the new layer, and I changed the layer blending mode to Overlay, which has the effect of not seeing the pattern except on the dress. Then I changed the layer hue to a more purple color, and I reduced the layer saturation. I did these last steps using the “magic wand” tool, which is the right-most tool at the center top of the screen.

On a new layer above the previous two layers, I used the Vector tool to paint highlights onto the dress with a light color. Then I changed the layer blending mode to Overlay, so that the dress pattern was more visible through the highlights.

On several new layers above the previous layers, I used the Vector tool to create shapes for her face, neck and features. On another new layer I used the pen tool to draw buttons and lines on her dress.

On several new layers above the previous layers, I used the Vector tool to create a shape for her hair, and I used the pen tool to paint black and white lines signifying hair strands.

On a new layer below all the other layers, I filled the layer with an orange color.

On a new layer above the background color layer, I used the Vector tool to create shapes for arms and hands.

On several new layers, I used the pen tool to draw outlines of her bags; I used the Vector tool to create shapes for the front, sides and bottoms of the bags as well as shapes for the handles; and I used another pattern I created in MetaBrush from the same flower painting I used previously, for a pattern on her bags (similarly to how I did it for the dress).

On new layers above the other layers, I used the pen tool to draw lines on and around her figure. I saved the image to my camera roll.

I opened the image in iColorama. I used Adjust/Tonelab for improved tone and contrast. I used Form/Crop to crop.

I used Tone/Pastel to modify the color.

I used Style/ET-Flow for a slightly “turbulent” look. As it turns out, this step did not really contribute much to the final image.

I plan to use Style/Tensor preset 6. To prepare for that step, I used Style/Tensor preset 1.

Then I used Style/Tensor preset 6, using the Tensor 1 image as the secondary image. I could have skipped these Tensor steps too, although they and the ET-Flow step contribute a little bit to the softness of the final image.

I used Brush/Bristle to repaint the image, leaving blank areas along the edges. I left all settings at their defaults, and I used the default brush.

I used Effect/Denoise presets 1 and 4 several times to smooth the lines. Then I used Effect/Raise preset 1 at low opacity and Effect/Sharpen preset 4 at low opacity for a bit more definition. Finally, I cropped using Form/Crop.
