Purple Gaze

I started with an portrait I created in iColorama, painted it in Paintstorm Studio, and then used the Matter app to make two more surreal versions of the resulting image.

I started with this image that I created previously. You can see how I made it here.

I opened the image in Paintstorm Studio and reduced the opacity so that I could use it as a guide to my painting on new layers. On a new layer, I used the Simple Ink pen to draw outlines.

On another new layer, I used the Drawblend Opacity brush to paint over the figure.

On another new layer I used the Brush Hairy brush to paint her hair. I adjusted all the layer opacities and saved to my camera roll.

I opened the image in iColorama and used Adjust/Tonelab 5, Adjust/EQ2, and Adjust/Levels to adjust the tone.

I used Tone/Enhance and Tone/Duotone to adjust the color.

I used Effect/Scrape at low opacity to soften and lend a painterly quality to the brush strokes.

I used Effect/Raise Preset 1 at medium size, to emphasize the brush strokes.

I used Brush/Paint to paint in pupils and catchlights in her eyes.

I used Form/Warp to change the shape of her face.

I used the Elasticam app to make fine adjustments to her features. These fine adjustments are easier to do in Elasticam than in iColorama, whereas I find that the larger adjustments are easier to do in iColorama.

Finally, I opened the image in iColorama and I used Adjust/Exposure and an inverted brush mask to lighten a part of her face, on the right side near her mouth. And I used Effect/Light at low opacity to emphasize the highlights. This is Version 1.

Now I will make another version. I opened the image in the Matter app and made this image. I used one of the Primitive objects: Primitive 5, 6, 7 or 8. I used Style Refract-1 (the third style). I turned the Shadow off. With Shadow selected, I ran my finger in various directions across the screen until the lighting was the way I wanted it. I used Mask with a soft brush (the middle icon) to reveal areas of the original image, as desired.

In iColorama, I used Effect/Blend to blend the Matter image over Version 1. I used a brush mask to allow her hair to show through. This is Version 2.

I made this image in a similar way in the Matter app.

In iColorama, using Effect/Blend, I blended it over Version 1, positioning the top image to align the nose lines, and used a brush mask to blend areas so as to remove the hard lines where I could. This is Version 3.
