Fall in the Smokies

Here is a landscape painted with Paintstorm Studio and then processed in iColorama to get the mood I wanted.

I started with this photo of mine.

I opened the image in Paintstorm. I painted color all over the canvas with a Rand Texture brush. For the white and yellow lines on the road, I used a pencil.

On a new layer, I painted over the trees using the Fall brush (under the Stars icon).

On another new layer, I painted with one of the Grass brushes (also under the Stars icon).

I adjusted the layer opacities and saved to my camera roll.

I opened the image in iColorama. I used Adjust/Tonelab presets 4 and 5 at low to medium opacity for tonal separation.

I used Tone/Enhance to adjust the color.

I used Style/Coherence preset 1 to prepare for using Raise. Then I applied Effect/Raise preset 1 to emphasize the brush strokes.

I applied Tone/Duotone in Multiply mode at low opacity, to tone the shadows.

I used Effect/Blend to blend the original photo over the image, at low opacity, to get a better sense of the fog in the distance, using a brush mask so that the effect is only in the distance.

Using Brush/Paint, I painted in some fog over the trees and sky using a Humo brush at varying sizes and at low opacity.

To simplify the image, which had too many colors, I used Tone/Sepia in Multiply mode (which gave the most natural color) at low opacity, then lightened the image in Adjust/Levels to compensate for the darkening from the sepia step.

I still felt that the foliage color was not quite right. So I blended in the Paintstorm output at very low opacity over the image, using an inverted brush mask to paint the effect only over the trees. Then with the brush mask still in place, I used Effect/Raise preset 1 at low opacity to match the textures.

Finally, I used Adjust/Levels to brighten the image a bit
