Abstract

I wanted to try my hand at an abstract. I started by building shapes and lines in SketchClub because it is so easy to do there. Then I used iColorama to add a variety of my favorite effects. The result looks a bit like pieces of watercolored paper floating above a background.

I opened a blank canvas in SketchClub. I used the Vector tool to create these shapes. Then on a layer underneath the shapes layer, I filled it with a dark color.

On a new layer above the shapes layer, I used the Pen tool to draw lines.

On a new layer above the lines layer, I used the Pen tool to draw fine scribbles.

I changed the color of the color fill layer.

On a new layer just above the color fill layer, I used a large charcoal brush to paint soft orange strokes.

On a new layer on top of all the other layers, I used the Vector tool at low to medium opacity to make new transparent shapes. I saved the image to my camera roll.

I opened the image in iColorama. I used Effect/Glow, trying all the presets and slider settings.

I used Effect/Raise preset 1 at low size and opacity.

I used the Style/Water. I experimented with all the sliders. Then I used Effect/Denoise presets 1 and 4 a couple of times, and then Effect/Raise preset 1 at low size and opacity.

I used Style/Flat preset 18 at low to medium opacity, trying all the slider settings. I was trying for the cutout lol with some shadows between the shapes.

Then I used Effect/Denoise presets 1 and 4 a few more times, and then Effect/Raise preset 1 at low size and opacity.

I felt the image was too busy with too many colors. So I experimented with Adjust/HSL Curves. I tried lots of settings things before I got this.

I used Adjust/Exposure to increase the lightness of the image. Then I used Adjust/Shadows to enhance the shadows.

Finally, I used Adjust/High preset 1 at medium opacity and low to medium lightness and sharpnes, to really make the image pop.
