Green Schools Campaign

Green Schools Campaign

The Green Schools Campaign is an exciting hands-on programme open to all schools in Mumbai, that educates children on their responsibility towards the environment and offers them the opportunity to actually be involved in relevant environmental projects! This Campaign took off in 2010 with 12 participating schools and that number has now grown to over 50 schools!

The theme for the Eight Edition (2017-2018) of the Campaign is ‘Go Trash-less’. With our city currently generating about 10,000 tonnes of trash daily, waste management is easily one of Mumbai’s biggest environmental concerns! We cannot expect the government alone to address this issue; every citizen needs to take responsibility for finding a sustainable solution to this problem. This is precisely what we hope to achieve through this edition of the Green Schools Campaign. Hence, through the year, the participating schools will be assisted in:

  • Mapping Trash: Discovering where it comes from and where it ends up
  • Managing Trash: Reducing and correctly disposing trash in school and at home
  • Minimizing Trash: Working towards trash-less neighbourhoods

At the close of each edition of the Campaign, the best performing school receives the ‘Greenest School Award’ which consists of a citation plaque and a cash prize. The most active student from every participating school receives a ‘Green Champ’ award. Several other prizes for performance and innovation are also awarded.
