Definitions to Help

There are many terms, words, and phrases on this website that may be confusing if you don't have a musical background.  See the list below to help make more sense of what you're reading.

Music Program: A music program is a performance that includes all students in the noted grade level.  For example, a 5th grade Music Program will include every single student in 5th grade, regardless of their involvement in Band or Choir.  Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will have a music program this year.

5/6 Choir: Choir is a performing ensemble that meets outside of regular school hours and is therefore considered extra-curricular.  Any student in 5th or 6th grade that has an interest in singing and performing with other 5th and 6th graders should consider joining this group!  Performances that include 5/6 Choir will only include the singers that are involved or members of the 5/6 Choir.  Follow this link to learn more.

Band:  Band is totally separate from classroom music, but does meet during school hours.  5th and 6th graders are welcome to join Band.  Band is an ensemble of performers that use instruments (trumpet, clarinet, etc.) to play music.  Ms. Cummings conducts the 5th and 6th grade Bands for Independence.
